Ive worked on building's drilling into concrete an it was like drilling into sponge cake .and looking at videos u can tell theres not enough rebar at columns the concreate crumbeled like sponge .its easy to see what happened. .plus in tha 80s there were many jobs done with no real job site inspectors like they have today .plus back then the jobsite contractor superintendent .would jus sign off on saying the work was done .corners were cut .inferior concreate mixs
    Lack of post tension cables
    Leads to a domino effect .
    It could have been tha deck colapsing that brought buildings columns being drug out causing a domino effect .
    Or ad simple as a drunk pulling in and slamming into one critical column.
    Or the begining of a sink hole that colapsed a column
