23. This pandemic will never be officially, "over." Look at the Influenza pandemic of 1918 for instance. That pandemic, "lasted about 3 years." It killed millions of people the world over without mercy. The truth is the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918 NEVER REALLY ENDED. People wore masks, socially distanced, and washed their hands often and often. In some places if folks refused to wear masks they were removed and banned from using any public transport. Scientists worked hard and furiously to try to develop a flu vaccine and they succeeded, SORT OF. Influenza is tricky because of its ability to mutate very quickly, so quickly the same strain doesn't infect the population for 2 consecutive "seasons. " Because of this viral trait the best Scientists could manage after 1918 was to attempt to predict how Influenza was bound to mutate for an upcoming flu season and make a vaccine that will protect against the projected mutation for that season. Even today some years Scientists hit the nail on the head. They successfully anticipated how flu would mutate for the current season and made a vaccine that protects against definitely that strain of flu and maybe other strains too. Maybe other flu's are less severe from this season's flu vaccine. Some seasons Scientists miss the mark completely or by just enough that a lot of people get vaccinated against flu but got flu anyway because flu mutated in an unanticipated way this season.
    The pandemic will never be over. The Spanish Influenza Pandemic of 1918 still isn't over. It's alive and well almost every year in spite of all precautions. Even when masks reduce the spread of these viruses it doesn't make the viruses any weaker or beat them in any way. They are alive and well, being temporarily kept at bay and stopped from spreading. We don't have cures for ANY VIRUS. We have not figured out how to defeat them. Even when vaccinated it only prevents the virus from infecting that body. Vaccines don't even defeat viruses. Polio and Small Pox are still out there, just not much among the human populations, for now. Currently the general world population no longer gets vaccinated against small pox or polio as part of the early life vaccination schedule we're all supposed to receive. Since the general population is no longer vaccinated against the illnesses mentioned, the whole population is at an elevated risk for contracting either virus. Scary thought, sound familiar yet?
