Fyre Festival investigation sparks conversation about power of influencers

In the world of social media influencers, the line between what’s fact and advertisement can be blurry. The Fyre Festival debacle showcases a consequence of that system.

  1. If a person gets paid to post …. ‘Buyer Beware’
I would NEVER buy or do ANYTHING just because some spoiled celebrity promotes it. If anything, I’d run……

  2. Blame the evil ones like jake Paul who abuses social media, not the good ones on it or here on YouTube who wants to do good and make money but give back and make a change. If the 1950s had this, I bet it would be the same way, maybe even worse. This whole thing is industry based, music, movies and more. This is never going away just like hoes things have since the 1990s and more. This does need to be policed more to make sure this doesn’t happen ever again cause that was just wrong. Social media became a way for people to have a voice, have more fun in life instead work 9-5 jobs you don’t want to work into, now you tell me for those who are older “if this was out in the 1990s, you had a chance to make 500 dollars then off of one post or video…wouldn’t you? So let’s not be hypocritical about this when this would’ve happened sooner in the 1990s if internet boomed.

  3. Models should have showed a little courtesy and should have tried paying workers and the local people who were working their ass off and lastly they didnt get paid for there efforts. Just a bizarre world

  4. That's just sad that people will still continually fund the lifestyle of social influencers and struggle to stay afloat, and hit rock bottom when it all comes crashing down. 😒 I do hope the locals that got their money back. influencers? more like influenza…🤣.. a viral infection that requires you to conform to a fake materialized society which will leave one continually seeking validation and acceptance to be part of the ‘norm’.

  5. If you are falling for their bullshit, then I can’t feel that bad for you. I genuinely don’t understand why any of these people have any influence whatsoever. I can’t think of a more vapid and useless group of people.

  6. I hate Models because they think, they are something special and in fact they are nothing more than glamorous Prostitutes ,getting bought to build some crappy festival ^^
I hate Influencers ,bloggers and this generation too

  7. I'm a biologist. I have stressed myself out to near clinical depression, weight gain, and near poverty to pay for grad school while I finish my PhD in biostatistics and physiological ecology. I hope to one day make a difference by publishing my research on avian conservation in South America and might make an average of 60k a year at most 100k.
This girl take a photo, writes a hashtag, within a few minutes and makes more than I'll make in a few years.

  8. "Complimentary tickets to Fyre 2018" 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ that tells me everything I need to know about Billy MacFarlane – mainly that the man's got no clue of how business actually works.

  9. "fake it until you make it" – that's the system we r living in.that's why people like Kardashians, trump, and all sort of other people who only skill is PR are on top of the food chain, while competent people with real message and vision are struggling.

late capitalism at the finest. hope Pandemic will adjust things and cut BS we live in at least to a certain extend.
