1. I went all along that coast last year 6 months after Michael struck and Apalachicola didn't appear to be even remotely as badly hit as Port St Joe & Mexico Beach further round the coast, they were reduced to matchsticks, so those houses in Apalachicola were built to last damn.

14. 'k…. They're Floridians… We tend to stay because we always have. Sadly these storms are different. The last 5 have been different. Irma was HUGE. Many believed the Republican hokum about anthropocentric global warming being non existent, so there's nothing to worry about …. right? Limbaugh said this storm wasn't any big deal, right?

15. I see a lot of comments saying people are stupid for staying. That is a really easy thing to say when your sitting a thousand miles away watching it on TV. There are different reasons people stay and unless you are in the situation you could not possibly understand. I went through hurricane Irma just over a year ago. We did not leave because there was nowhere to go and even if there was, there was no gas available to get anywhere for a week before it hit. When you live paycheck to paycheck you don't have the funds available to just take off a week or two before the storm.

    I know I'm going to get a haters disagreeing with me and I really don't care. Unless you have been in the situation you have no excuse to run your mouth about what other people should do.

25. The security camera footage of the storm surge with breaking waves atop the water, washing between houses, shows how catastrophic this is for smaller, weaker buildings. Stay inside one of them in a situation like this and you will very likely be dead.
