Take this for what its worth: here is a total solution to tornado's or ANY type of wind destruction, hurricane's, lightning strikes, air strikes as in 911, even a nuclear attack. your basement is too shallow plus the really real fear of your home caving in on you. back in the 50's & 60's had the right idea even our white house as the right idea. the president can go down a mile down. it really the MOST practical total solution to almost ALL disasters of mother nature & man. the bomb shelter of the 50's & 60's was & is the solution to almost all disasters! its by far the cheapest way to live. think of it only 4 feet under ground. that means you have 4 feet of earth before your celing starts. you are under the frost line so even with NO heat your home stays at above 55 degrees so its really, REALLY cheap to heat & you don't even need air but if you did have air it would be so cheap even in the middle of any desert. if it's good enough for our president why wouldn't be good enough for ALL American homes? its by far the cheapest way to live. the basic cement block 8" high by 8" wide by 16" long is around one dollar. once you dig the area & lay the blocks most of the work is done. lay the floor of cement then fill all the rooms with dirt or sand then lay the roof as you did the floor all with re-bar of course. then dig out all the dirt or sand. if you want all wood walls you could build that inside as you like. there is no cheaper way to buil & then cheapest living too cuz your under 4 feet ground! just think all your walls & roof/celings are under ground so last way, way, way longer & would be way easier to fix or replace any how. you could even have pored walls to. have a garage for your cars too. this is by far the MOST PRACTICAL way to live. the cheapest way to live. the safest way to live. the never have to house, never need to replace the roof or siding even if you did it would cost way less then normal cost. all utility lins cable plumbing should be under ground any how. being totally under ground would make it so you have more land to use too. you could have a nice tennis court, basket ball court right over your under ground house too! if all these homes in all these states had been under ground homes we would all be laughing at all these tornado's instead they are all crying over there total lost when today they would be happy & vary joyful as they should be around this time of year. instead they are homeless & said because they lost not just there homes they lost LOVED ones there family pets & family's lives! HOW MANY TIMES DOES THIS SAME THING NEED TO HAPPEN? before American's come to there senses that under ground homes is the practical thing to do? I'm REALLY six of seeing STUPIDITY like this year after year STUPIDITY living, WHY!!!? when under ground living would be so easy & WAY cheaper & practical & safe! the Joplin & Katrina hurricane's with many tornado outbreaks SHOULD HAVE BEEN a clue. even water could be sealed out with under ground building & living today is 12-16-21!!!!!!!
