  4. I went to get my Coffee at Star bucks this morning, my Venti went up 0.30 C I can no longer justify buying coffee now that it is over $5.00 . There Just putting the Pay Raise off onto the Customers , so in the end they lost me as a Customer .

  6. Wealthy companies that pay workers less than a living wage always deny their need for union representation. They hold their ground until the rumblings threaten their foundations…then they 'magnanimously' raise the pay, and temper their bureaucratic ways.
    Rather than a cooperative approach where all would benefit, they view their money providers from on high. It is the American tragedy that will have its day of reckoning.

  9. Coffee is just going to up by 20% to make the difference, as well as a layoff in workers to make others work harder for the so called "increased pay".

    How about we put a market cap on what CEO's make to no more than 10x what their lowest wage worker makes? That will truly solve this crisis as it will create more distribution of wealth without inflation hikes.

  11. I been through this. They give you a pay rise, then cut your hours so you end up making even less than before. But then they use those higher wages to justify raising their prices. They trick the customer to pay more for the same and pay their employees less while touting higher wages. It's just evil.
    And STARBUCKS COFFEE SUCKS!!

  21. Wow, up to 23 dollars an hour. Imagine that. Just a couple years back I was hooking up enterprise level communications/internet circuits while dealing with the clients. Now a barista is about to make the same for making coffee and dealing with customers, lol.

    I sure hope telecom went up in wage then too because the skills required are way more.

    No regrets though, doing that gave me a foundation of skills to work with to move up to the next level. More than doubled my salary since then. Higher wage for minimum wage is great but time spent learning skills to a better career path weighs more in value.

  23. As an ex employee you work your butt off at Starbucks, they should pay more. You have to deal with the “just say yes customer attitudes”, and you do everything from make coffee to clean bathrooms. In 2008 during economic down turn they streamlined their business. Which was ok at the time. But then never gave the labor back to the store level. They said, hey look at the stores, they can work their butts off and we can make more profits. BTW in California, employees already make over $15 an hour, and still they can’t keep employees. Even with all the freebies they throw at the employees. Free lunch, online college, appreciation cookies don’t pay the rent.

  28. I keep reading comments to the effect of "Now their prices are gonna go up." Yes, they probably will and that's fine. We can't have everything cheap and still want decent pay for everyone.

    People who are hardcore, habitual Starbucks patrons, already spending 20 or 25 dollars a week going there four or five times are not going to be bothered by it going up to 23 or 27 dollars a week because each of their drinks now cost an extra 25 or 50 cents. People like me, who go twice a month in the fall and winter for a hot chocolate, aren't going to care about that drink costing an extra 25 or 50 cents. If I can afford to waste $3.25 that day I can afford to waste $3.50 or $3.75.
