  1. REALLY tragic. The most incredible thing is that this poor kid is the FIRST EVER recorded death from skate cuts. There were previous accidents, but everyone managed to survive. THAT is the most incredible part of a sport with people slamming into each other and falling one over another with chef-level sharpened blades on their feet. That he is the first casualty.
Isn't there some kind of neck guard that could be put on every player?
Anyways. I just hope the parents and family can stay strong and get through this. And that they get all the support they need.

  2. This is one of those unimaginable ice hockey injuries that everyone thinks about, but usually never happens. To think it happen to such a young man with his whole life ahead of him, doing what I'm sure he loved to do, that just brings this to another level. I cannot begin to fathom what that family must be going through, but I do know that they need prayers.

  8. Sad situation all around, and I sure hope that young man who collided with him gets the help that he needs. Something like this can very easily and quickly develop into PTSD or other mental health disorders.

  9. I remember the goalie for buffalo sabers in the early 80s got a skate to his jugular. Horrific. Team doctors pinched his jugular and kept him alive while they rushed him to the ER. He survived.
