  1. A model corrections officer, despite only being a teenager. Despite having a horrible and abusive childhood, he is able to stand on the other side of the fence, and furthermore, want to change the people on the inside of the fence. Not every officer can empathise with offenders.

  2. i give these rookies alot of credit for taking this on as a career BUT i wouldnt want it & i wouldnt want anyone i cared about to work in a prison.  its too dangerous & its too stressful.i lived above 2 correction officers in nyc when i was in school & they were counting the days till retirement (20 yrs) they couldnt wait to get out & they had some horror stories to tell. they said its serving time along with the prisoners, its dirty, you're dealing with the worst of society, they were spit on & worse, one was thrown down a flight of stairs when he let his guard down & the inmate was smiling in his face. you always have to be on alert, it gets to you one way or another.  i hope that cute 19 yr old rookie, tyler, gets a better, safer job.  he looks like my brother. & if you're reading this TYLER…stop smoking!   also you said you want to help kids like you. you would be great as a casa(court appointed special advocate) you act as the childs advocate who is in the court system (im one, its a volunteer no pay job but very rewarding) for a career, how about youth counselor, social worker, JUVENILE correction officer, etc…these MEN in adult prisons have already made their life choices. stay safe & healthy.
