1. Hey Eric, I have a 2004 E with 190k miles. I bought it brand new 0 miles. I never changed the transmission oil, I dont have any shifting issues, but recently the D light started to blink intermitently. The 3rd gear pressure switch is the problem. Do you recommend me to change the transmission oil once I replace the pressure switch? I'm scared to have transmission issues with the new oil.

2. Yeah Toyota RAV4, not a Honda Element. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Minus the oil burning Pistons, if you get one of those s*** ones lol. But they make some damn good transmissions (90% of the time).

4. On my 2000 odyssey… the shift from 1st to 2nd is horrible if I give it a normal amount of gas pedal. It shifts fine if I let it get up to 3.5k… but if I try to let it shift at 3k.. it’s sooooo slow.

5. My first trans had a problem with with the 1-2 shift it would hold first for a long time then shift hard on hard acceleration then the trans overheated and I got a junkyard one. Now that one has a weird metal chatter noise at 55 period and at 40 but that is a little hard to make happen I hear here and there I was think doing this qhen I get yhe chance glad he made a video on this I just hopes this works out for me I don't have a trans filter so idk how I'm a put one in 🤔

6. My odyssey shakes and gives issues shifting. I was told to flush the torque converter 3 times and that should fix the issue. That along with a update. I just haven't done it yet cause tbh I'm ready to give it up for something new.

7. Hey Eric
   My thought is the battery cable as the possible culprit. Not getting the full electric volts to solenoid could make it have that shifting symptom.
   I say that because I have a Dodge Ram pickup with auto trans and I was having the same shifting symptom in 3rd gear. Went in changed internal electric solenoid, still had the problem. I took to my local trusting auto trans mechanic, he suggested my batteries were low and the solenoid needed a certain amount of volts to work properly. I bought new batteries (unfortunately my Ram PU is a diesel and needs two 12 volt batteries) transmission shifting problem gone😀.
   What are your thoughts.

8. I have a 2002 Honda CRV. I have the EXACT issue. Changed the solenoids, had the same issue but I didn't change the filter. I'll have to try that.

9. You changed the fluid but not the filter the first time? Isn't that a waste of new fluid?

11. I drove many 1996 Accords over time. Hated how trans shifted. Smartened up and now drive super smooth 1998 Toyota Camry with non interference engine.

12. Hi Eric I think I have all tran celinoid it came out of 2003 accord. If you want it I can give it to you for free but you have to pay the shipping cost.

13. One thing I have found over the years with Solenoids is Sludge buildup in the their cylinder bore. First insure the intake screen filter is clean. Use a non-volitile cleaner and exercise the solenoid back and forth. The Electric side seldom fails. Its just wire windings and a connector. Corrosion/breakage perhaps in extreme cases. Mechanical side has seals wear out with time and prone to sludge buildup. Neglected maintenance or excessive mileage is the major contributing factor.

I just did a bunch of work to my friend's '08 Honda Element, her rig had 145K miles on it, did a trans service after the dreaded starter change and used Honda OEM filter and DW1 ATF, bought a case and flushed out the old nasty fluid(which looked like coffee)by taking off the trans cooler line before the filter, used a length of 3/8" clear hose and pumped it into a 3 gallon clear plastic jug 2 qts. at a time, shut engine off/refilled again until I ran 8 qts thru it or new ATF visible in the clear hose. Install new filter after doing the service and add 3 qts to sump, warmed up fluid as per factory manual and set fluid level at the full mark.
    This gets all the nasty old oil out of the converter and does not harm the trans, just make sure to immediately shut off engine if you see any bubbles in the clear hose while draining! This car's trans shifts about 75 to 100% better as a result!

My 2006 trailblazer did the same thing and I didn't think much of it So one day I was driving and a I passed someone going vary slow and I tried to get it up to speed it would not shift and I couldn't get it to shift for nothing so I got past the gas station my engine started to sound funny and then it died in the middle of the road now I think I blew my engine up

19. Easy fixes are the best fixes! Great video Eric. The transmission filter is not a service item on either my wife's 2011 Pilot or my 2013 Fit but would you recommend I change them every transmission fluid change or maybe every other? I know it can't hurt to change it every time.

20. Walmart is now selling castrol transmission fluid and for those who own Toyotas it’s supposedly ws compatible.

21. When you were bench testing the solenoids with the power probe, you could hear a definite difference in sound between the two solenoids.

22. Eric, I haven’t watched the whole. Video yet but let’s compare problems first. My 99 Accord EXL has a similar problem only going from first to second and only on the first shift of the day. I’ve purchased new tubes and screens for the solenoid valves and I’m going to change them out. Been told clutch material can clog the screens. Car only has 66K miles. 24. My 1998 Audi A6 C5 have same delay but only on down shifting to the point when driving it won't down shift until I park then it downshift from 5th to 1st back to back

25. I have the same problem for the last five years on our 2002 Civic EX, but only when cold. Does not seem to get any worse, unless it is colder outside. Is the flair more an annoyance or could cause other issues with the transmission if it is just the solenoid?

26. My wife has a 1999 CR-V… started to shake in 3 & 4 gear. I changed the transmission fluid about 3x one after another (after driving it a bit in town). Any suggestions?

27. Did you check the resistance on the new ab solenoid to compare the readings?

28. I have always wanted an Elment as secondary vehicle. Where I am they all have 250k miles or more. Are these still okay to buy with that amount of mileage?

29. I think the valve bore inside that aluminum assembly where the valve rides was worn and not able to build the proper hydraulic pressure to engage 3rd gear smoothly

31. have you every tried a cleaner like Seafoam Trans Tune in a Trans ?. had simular issues on a old Nissan maxima. Transmission change x3 drain fill, Synthetic ATF Fluid Compat with Matic-D, Lucus and TransTune and it went from barely moving and shifting very bad to something that moves , but lost 4th grear. its got over 200K miles so just gong to drive it to it drops its good enought to get around locally. replacing the ShifSolenoid block on it requires drop pan, take out valve body, replace Solenoid block (all solenoids) and put back with new Filter. but still could be a warn clutch or Torque converter

32. Hard to determine whether it was filter or solenoid when you changed both items. Does a clogged filter give a pressure drop that would contribute to the shifting issue?
    I think It was shaft wear in the solenoid. Good to know it's easy to change out.

33. I just picked up a 2004 honda odyssey with 114k on original transmission. So far have done two ATF changes, changed inline filter on top of transmission. Today I am adding a Tru-cool 4544 transmission cooler. The transmission is working fine rite now but I read some threads highly recommending doing the things I have done. Oh and I'm using Valvoline ATF max life Red jug.

35. Really love the videos here, especially the ones concerning the older Honda vehicles. I have a 2002 Accord (S86) that had belonged to my late father-in-law. I like this car very much and had been sending it for regular maintenance and repairs every time there's any sort of problem. Had also got it repainted last month, plus four new Michelins. It's `only' 2,000 cc (high road tax here in Malaysia for bigger cc engines) but there's enough power.

37. My gf's accord is doing this exact samething but only goin from first to second gear. Sometimes its fine but most of the time it skips second gear and the D llight blinks

39. I've yet to see where Idemitsu is in fact the OEM trans fluid for Honda. Sure… There's a lot of people on the internet saying that it is but I can't find anything official confirmation on this matter. I have tried the Idemitsu in my 2011 Civic and drain it after only 3 months. It started out cherry red and turned to a burnt amber color very quickly. That was a big red flag for me. (or burnt amber flag) So now I'm currently using ENEOS Model H and it's doing very well if not better than the Idemitsu. Still cherry red after 10 months of daily driving. So keep an eye out for rapid color change when using Idemitsu ATF.
