  1. My father was a Colorado State trooper (patrolman was what they were called back in 1984). He has been injured three times on the job.

    1. He was stopped at a traffic light in his patrol car and a drunk driver in a semi rear ended him. He received a back injury that he fully recovered from.

    2. He pulled over on the right shoulder of highway and the driver of a utility van sneezed and lost control of his vehicle and hit his patrol car. He received a broken collarbone and fully recovered.

    3. He had pulled over a vehicle on right shoulder of the road. Driver was outside of his vehicle retrieving his wallet for ID. Another vehicle drove into the right shoulder and hit both of them. The young man he pulled over recieved a broken arm. My father had several critical injuries including including a fractured skull, several broken ribs and injuries as he was the air and he had several severe injuries. This was the accident that ended his career as an officer as he never gained full use of his leg These all happened within a few short years. He was lucky to be alive after the last accident.

It's amazing how many troopers/police have been severely injured or died in these type of accidents all over the country.

Thankfully and luckily this trooper was not hit and was able to avoid severe injury or death.

  2. All these people saying officers should not be pulling people over on highways and blaming them for this accident are ridiculous. Who do you think they would blame if their loved ones were injured or killed by a speeding, wreckless or drunk driver?! I can hear it now "Why aren't these troopers doing their job and stopping these drivers?!" and "Why didn't the state provide enough troopers on the roads?! Do you really wan't these drivers to just put everyone else in danger!?

The car that slammed into the car that was stopped is exactly the driver that was at fault and the reason for needing troopers in the first place.

Remember these same officers don't just give out tickets. They are usually the first responders on the scene of accidents and also can provide lifesaving help before the paramedics arrive. Most have to take and pass EMT courses. My father was a Colorado state trooper for 35+ years before he was hit and severely injured by a careless driver and was disabled and had to retire. During that time he not only saved lives by getting drunk drivers off the road and providing.medical help, but also help delivered a baby in a car.

    Just saying…

  3. Edited trickery, in the split second that the cop moves away the clouds shift, but surprisingly don’t move when he’s standing still.

  4. I like how his first reaction (besides obviously "woah that was close," or "what the hell?!") was to check on the driver he pulled over to make sure they were alright, and then the motorist who caused the collision. This is a guy who knows how to do his job right 👍

  5. Well a police officer was hit and killed by a drunk driver on the interstate where I live in lenoir city Tennessee and they are probably killing that guy in the jail right now. Plus, hes black and in small podunk towns like mine, killing anyone cop or not, is not a good thing. If he dies in jail, they had something to do with it

  6. Reading the comments – is that the answer to everything? Blame law enforcement? Priceless. HOW ABOUT Blame the speeder, blame the idiot who can’t keep from hitting a car that’s on the shoulder…blame yourselves for being hypocrites

  7. 9 of the top 11 states with the lowest per capita state spending on law enforcement are the Republican-led states of South Dakota, West Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, Iowa, Arkansas, Indiana and Kentucky.

  8. Cop clearly caused this. And while we arent psychics and know for sure that the speeding victim here would NOT have crashed. We can infer, based on statistics and our own experiences that almost certainly this person would NOT have shut down the highway in a crash had they not been stopped

  9. Actual title: “Innocent person gets severely rear ended because state trooper thought it was a good idea that they both pull to the side of a busy highway.”

  10. This is a better report…

About this video, the title was made to receive the most clicks. I think the title should be rewritten…. consider the trooper was okay and the person in the car received the burnt of that devastating crash…

  11. Note the State Trooper is a Motor Unit so super lucky he didn't get hit head on. Being a motor unit his vehicle even with lights flashing is not as visible "attention grabbing" to a distracted driver unlike a patrol car or SUV. I'm pretty sure if he was in a regular patrol unit both him and pulled over driver would have been hit.
