The moon is the exact size and distance it needs to be to fully eclipse the sun and science used that phenomenon to prove relativity during a solar eclipse and that the light of stars behind the sun moved. If the moon was at a different size or different distance, this wouldn't have been possible.

   Science can't answer why the moon is the exact size and distance it needs to be, their latest is that a random planet hit protoearth and the debris randomly coalesced into the moon…which as i repeat has the "exact size and distance it needs to be" to fully eclipse the sun.
