British soccer star Marcus Rashford has successfully convinced Parliament to extend a meal voucher program that helps feed over a million impoverished children. His work began when England entered its first Covid-19 lockdown and closed schools. Rashford launched an online campaign to persuade the government to continue to offer free school lunches to kids in need, which eventually caught the ear of Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

He seems to be a – sadly – rare exception of someone nouveau riches doing something good and worthwhile with their wealth and influence, rather than just hoarding it or immediately severing ties to the struggles of ordinary people. Sure, footballers and other sports people very often lead initiatives, or help publicize events etc, but this guy’s actions and focus over the previous few months have been consistent, focused and yielded tangible results – the generally heartless, stonefisted Tory government are hardly ever shamed into doing something, or anything, to help – ugh! – the lower classes, but in this rare case, thanks to His relentless push to help poor or struggling people (by no means the same thing), there’s a tangible result that will help a Lot of people. So, well done indeed to him. By contrast, I’ve an indirect family member who’s about the same age as him, has ended up with close to $30 million in the bank, and is simply hoarding every last dollar, never ever supporting any charity or people where he lives, thousands of miles away. Some people are just born with a rich heart – or a miserly one, I suppose – and it’s good to see This guy being a good person. Long may it continue…
