My sympathies to these destroyed families and every other family who lost a loved one to unnecessary gun violence, as US politicians continue to wring their hands. I have said for years now that if we could not find the political will after Sandy Hook, we as a nation and a mentally ill culture have accepted that money means more than children and a certain small percentage of children are expendable to the mass gun culture. The teacher that left the door proped open and the teachers that made a fatal mistake of not running toward their classroom doors to lock and secure are more responsible for the immediate death of the kids. The 19 cops that showed up and stood there are more responsible for not saving kids that were potentially bleeding out or the deaths that occured once the gunmen was inside and contained.
It's not popular to blame a dead teachers but think about it. If you hear gunshots outside a school your first reaction as a teacher should be to rush to your doors and lock them. Her response was too late and it allowed the gun men inside and cause death. Yes everyone wants to blame the cops who didn't run into the classroom guns blazing and get into a wild wild west shoot out. But had those teachers not hesitate to secure those doors their odds of survival would have increased ten fold. If the gunman locked those doors it shouldn't have taken police no more than 10 to 12 minutes to get a team, breaching tools, or the key to enter the classroom and kill the gunman. Nobody would be blaming them if they would have taken that route. Now Uvalde PD has tarnished its reputation and good luck trying to get that jacket of cowardice off their department.

It is shocking to read some of the comments suggesting that the solution to the problem is to arm teachers or increase security at schools. How about getting some common sense gun laws in place ? Look at other countries that dealt with similar problems. They didn't arm their teachers or cashiers with guns. You are fighting fire with fire. Stop blaming the police or the shooter. Start with your elected senators. Hold them accountable. That's the root of your problem, Americans.

Police need defunded. The Sheriff's department needs to be increased, they had constitutional authority and have legal knowledge. Justice can be better served by the gate keepers than the mayors Renta cops.
