11. Thank you for running this. I remember so well the fear of using swimming pools and local lakes and beaches when I was a kid. I remember the caution tape across polio affected homes front doors. We lived in constant fear. I took a couple of classes from a teacher in an iron lung when I was in college. He had a portable so he could teach at San Francisco State. I also took workshops at the Living Love Center in Berkeley with Ken Keyes, Jr, author of The Hundredth Monkey. He was in a portable iron lung in the 1970's. There are still elders trapped in iron lungs since babyhood. You can't imagine the constant fear unless you lived it. In 1955 at 14 I got the first vaccine. My friend who lived across the bay also got a Sabine vaccination and actually got polio from the vaccine. She lived to be 19 & died of pneumonia. I had gotten the Salk vaccine. Please get your children vaccinated against polio. If you don't, you may find many others vulnerable, not just your child. It's a virus.
