  11. My Dad was a pilot ….. Lamar Cragun….. flew a Cessna 172 ….. I remember he was very safe … never any short cuts on the pre-flight or landing check … one time the radio stated pilot making a long-final and Dad looked at me and said “Don’t ever make a long-final. That’s how planes crash. There’s safety in altitude. You want to stay high until you are ready to land. My Dad died of old age. I miss him every day…..

  21. There shouldn’t be any airport in the United States that doesn’t have a tower to direct flights departing or approaching.
    It’s obviously dangerous for even the most experienced pilots and there’s absolutely zero excuse to justify a benefit of not having a tower.

  26. We didn't take much of a control tower if everyone has a radio and uses it and say hey I'm laying in this airport I'm here and it's now and is there anyone else around this airport. I think what we have here is a case of arrogant flying and entitled feeling of the guy that has the twin engine airplane and he is coming in and his mind everybody in the world sees them.

  27. The news stations need to be more responsible with this story. They're fear mongering over the fact the airport was uncontrolled.
    If you're not a pilot and this sounds crazy that some airports have no towers, 500 do and the other 20,000 don't.
    Non pilots can already have a fear of flying. Don't capitalize on it with misinformation.
