Android XR is the newest operating system from Google, and it’s specifically designed for headsets. So far, we’ve seen two form factors: VR-style headsets like Samsung’s Project Moohan, and AR-style glasses in prototype form from Google. At Google I/O 2025, our own C. Scott Brown got to try both styles. Here are his thoughts about how Android XR works on these two upcoming products!

  1. Considering the rumoured price range of $1800-$2000, it seems unlikely that the new Samsung headset will achieve widespread popularity, as it appears to be targeted towards a more affluent demographic. Similarly, the high cost of Apple products may have limited their sales, as they were primarily accessible to consumers with significant financial resources.

  2. Big headset like Mooham, and Apple Vision Pro will work only for home. But I believe more to Xreal Aura with Android XR, that can be use outside, in travel, at home. These still deliver cinematic big screen, with good AR, and 70 degrees fov.
I keep my money for the Project Aura if they can deliver a quality screen with a good pixel density. I hope they increase their new optic engine 70 fov with an increased resolution like 1440p. it is very important the text must be very visible without artifact, or bluriness.

  3. you can't say what you see, what it has, when it comes, what it does… so you're saying almost nothing. You should stop showing an ad about a product we know nothing

  4. People who don’t wear glasses don’t want to wear glasses.
People get their eyes lasered so they don’t have to wear glasses…. This tech is a dead fish

  5. Looks great, but touching the side of the glasses is lame. Since it has bluetooth, give the user a ring or small device they can use. Touching the glasses requires you to raise your arm and let everyone know what you're up to. Let people touch their glasses if they want, but provide an alternate activating device.

  6. Of course, it is cheaper, man. Look at how much time this thing is taking to launch. And if the leaks are correct, the hardware is just inferior to the Vision Pro; You just said that it has "20ms," while the latency on the VP is 12ms. How is it impressive that a hardware launched that much time later and with worse hardware (AND worse OS, with the exacption of the AI assistant) is "cheaper"?

  7. if it comes out in the summer it will be great but if it is released sometime in the winter it will be too late because the meta fb will not wait for samsung to do what it does and what price it sets will also be decisive. I hope they do not make such a mistake as apple did. everyone knows that apple committed harakiri while facebook set such a price that almost everyone can afford it 😅

  8. Interesting Apple doesn’t sue them for looking exactly like the Vision Pro and has the same moves..Competition is healthy but it feels stupid they don’t get together to develop the best product

  9. I was one of the idiots who bought 1st generation VR Oculus. The one thing I loved was an app called BigScreen which allowed me to watch a movie in large theater using VR. Bigscreen has evolved to an $1k small and light VR headset. Im really hoping that we start seeing sub$300 things that I can have a virtual movie theater again. Its dumb, but watching a virtual theater was pretty awesome, IMO.
