6. I definitely believe we need MAJOR prison reform all over our nation so that we can actually rehabilitate prisoners and treat them like humans. That’s why stuff like this is so frustrating to me! Making these drastic changes without having a different plan for what to do with these guys ends up delegitimizing the entire prison reform movement.

She abolished solitary confinement because: A) there are too many people like these guys and it's totally unrealistic B) it ends up being a human rights violation and makes people far worse and exacerbates mental illness. If they were going to put every crazy, high-risk inmate in the hole then they'd have to do this with thousands upon thousands of them, and it would just turn into an absolute hellhole and cause public outrage. It would never work. That guy isn't special or even close to being the worst or most dangerous guy. However, yeah, that place is a dump and negligence, corruption and abuse is rampant. Louisiana is tore up, lol. If you want to go down a really dark rabbit hole, just look into privately owned "satellite camps" in Louisiana that are called "gladiator school" … Tallulah, Jonesboro, Catahoula, etc. Tallulah is probably the worst and is run by a company called "LaSalle Corrections". The conditions and violence is quite unlike anything you've ever seen or heard of in the US. That is also the places they're sending immigrants detained by ICE. LaSalle Corrections needs to be shut down and investigated by the feds …

19. I’ve been in and out of that system and I don’t think there is much anyone can do to fix it within American norms. It’s chaos. I love my city but having lived many places including the Bronx, Nola is on some different shit. Idk how to help these guys. Guzman was the sheriff during my time there and it was the old jail. It was off the damn chain. Rikers is probably the closest thing but still incredibly different. Rikers has a bit of structure.
