  1. Your method of putting new pistons into a bore that has not been glaze busted,is not good.These low tension rings need the bore de glazed so that the rings can bed in. Secondly, you should have gaped the rings prior to installing back on the pistons. The bore diameter varies at any position you measure,which is why gaping the rings accordingly, prevents rings with too small a gap,will break at normal engine temperature.

  2. Ray, the auto repair industry needs you to partner with a local trade school and bring in students for a few shifts every week.
    It’ll be a massive pain for you, and yet will be one of the most satisfying things you’ll ever do,

  3. It is very unusual to see rings preinstalled on the pistons like that. You would normally need to order the correct size rings to fit the cylinders and the amount of wear/boring needed in the cylinder and then place them in the cylinders to adjust the gap (very important on a forced induction engine) so you don't end up with broken ring lands on the piston again when the rings grow from being heated up. Once you do that that ring belongs in that cylinder and no others. They can not be switched around. Preassembling the rings on the pistons so that you can just slap them in the engine sounds like a come back for the same repair just waiting to happen.

  7. I redid the Rod bearings oil pump and Timing chain on a guys 360 Ramcharger with slightly low oil pressure and probably too few oil changes. It had about 80,000mi.
    He gave it to his son later who was better about changing the oil. He finally retired it at 370,000 miles when the pumping efficiency was too low to get good power out of the Engine.

  8. I grew up working on my own cars. It wasn't love; it was necessity. I couldn't afford not to. Nor could my neighbors. We knew what we were talking about, and it was second nature. Cars were a second language. That was just how it was. Now, not all the people I know grew up that way. They know nothing about cars just as I know nothing about what they do. There are now younger ones who are learning and on the road to becoming car people. Ray is amazing at communicating at different levels. I am taking what I learn from Ray and communicating better.   11. Fair play – I wonder how many shops would risk it for the swishkit for a paying customer with this kind of quick and dirty job to get them back on the road. Maybe it isn't the most exacting surgical job but even with this how many more years does this car have anyway? 4 or 5 maybe? It is a chevy after all.

  12. Hey Ray, you never did show how you orient the rings on the piston before installing into the cylinder. It's critical to prevent blow by.

  13. I would've went all aftermarket high performance don't hold back with the tune because every single thing about this setup is wrong but the design is insane. I've seen ppl complete rebuild this setup in a cruze and make a rocket ship out of it and reliable. The stock maps cause all of the carbon build up on valves and pistons also eliminating the EGR on this system and the PVC to a catch can setup eliminates all of the carbon. Aftermarket pistons fix the small minor issues with stock and the tune eliminates all of the crap emissions that destroy this engine. The transmission as well. Instead of it holding out gears, slipping on purpose for economy and efficiency is horrible on the clutches. It will freak out sometimes and bang in 3rd gear so hard that sometimes it breaks the c-clip out of the transmission case requiring a complete transmission. A tune(there is one really expensive one that isnt like the rest that kills the engine and trans, do research) Will stop that and cause firmer more direct shifts which extends the life of the clutches in the transmission. My 2017 cruze sometimes will do weird shifting like it slips hard before it wants to complete the shift. Purely on software because it hasn't failed yet(knock on wood) but it does do weird shifting moves like slip so much and then bang in gear. It also did the bang, bang, bang, bang, and I thought the tranny was toast. Nope, just a stock software glitch. Eventually it will destroy the transmission but oh well, I can't afford 4 grand on a professional dyno tune.
