  1. I am in total agreement Ray, Why fix something that isn’t broken? You save your customers from having to pay for an unnecessary repair if you are right. Which after seeing those gaskets, I would be 90% sure they are the problem.

  2. Along with the Ford 300 6cyl, the 3800 has to be one of the most reliable and bulletproof later model engines. In v8 land, I'd have to go with the olds 330& 425. And let's not forget the chev 283 and 327 SBC

  3. YOUR IDEA OF CHANGING YOUR MIND ON HOW TO FIX THE ENGINE BASED ON YOU INSPECTION SHOWS ME YOU'RE THE REAL DEAL. You go to the Doc with what he believes is a sprained ankle but on examination of the x-rays discovers the ankle is broken you certainly don't want him to continue to wrap it and send you home. He adjusts his treatment based upon his examination which is exactly what you did.

  4. I can see the plastic upper intake is melted where the EGR pipe goes in, a very common problem. There is an updated lower intake with a smaller diameter EGR pipe to gain clearance. Aftermarket upper intakes come with press in fittings to replace the larger EGR pipe.

  5. Just changed the head gaskets on my 3800. The back head started leaking once I fixed the water pump leak at the timing cover. Would have been nice they put 2 more inches to the firewall. Getting those heat shields in was a pain. So are those plugs back there.

  6. I'm a Ford guy, yet I have to agree probably the best motor ever. Those things would spin the tires with little effort and lasted forever with these types of repairs.
The old Ford 2.3 was no powerhouse, but they are still on the road!

  7. Air compressor tanks need to have water drained out of them periodically. Being in your part of Florida, I would say that needs to be done daily, maybe more often depending on how much compressed air you use. Might be worth it to invest in an air dryer with an automatic purge valve that dumps accumulated water every time the compressor cycles to a stop.
