  1. I do not know if it's because this video is old and things got patched by Microsoft but after applying these changes I did noticed a kind of lag on games and Chrome/Firefox, looks like when you are multitasking all background programs are fighting for that bandwidth (This is happening to me, maybe for someone else it's a great change) I have a PC with high end components plus a 2000 MB/s symmetrical internet connection

  2. I've been doing this since the early Windows 7 days, and honestly, it just feels like a myth to me.

Microsoft's Raymond Chen wrote about this issue on his blog, The Old New Thing, back in 2006, calling it a "placebo setting" that was getting a lot of play at the time:

"The setting in question controls how much bandwidth can be claimed for high priority network access. If no program is using QoS, then all your bandwidth is available to non-QoS programs. What's more, even if there is a QoS reservation active, if the program that reserved the bandwidth isn't actually using it, then the bandwidth is available to non-QoS programs."

He goes on to say, "So tweak this value all you want, but understand what you're tweaking."

  3. Thank you for this. Seriously. I love the video format with the zooming in so we can read it, and you cover all the little details without assuming we already know everything or coming off as condescending like so many "guides" do. You earned a sub today, sir.

  4. Chris you should totally add this to your toolbox, I was downloading a game from steam and my download speed before was 3 MB/s but after doing this it went to solid 15 MB/s

  5. Actually, the feature does exist (it is part of windows, or it would not work). Creating a registry path just allows you to change those settings that aren't present in the Registry yet.
There is per-adapter registry setting is literally mentioned in the group policy description.

  6. What about the smarter group knows Win 7 is the best and we know we don't have to ever sell out for crap? I probably already have nixed the autoupdates on everything anyway.

  7. Chris, I know this is an older tool, but the things that you come up with and teach everyone – are exceptional – the way you teach it as well is really first class (coming from a trainer) Well done.

  8. Super,it works. 👍 But i have a doubt does this settings also effect our wifi internet bandwidth ? Since i use my wifi most of the times than LAN connection.

    Thanks.

  9. Old video but wanted to comment. I have a 10gb network at home. Or should I say, 10gb devices, switch, and cat8 cables. Its not running any where near 10gb. Windows server 2022 and Windows 10 Enterprise. No amount of changes I tried have worked. I need better tools to find the problem. Example. Copying a file from the server to the local WIn10 host. SSD drives on both ends. 10gb end to end. I grab a sample file 48gb in size and drag it to a local folder from the server (mapped drive). File transfer speeds start out around 600 MB/s and drop to a sustained 230 MB/s.

  10. Hello chris, is it okay if i may ask you, whats the key combination on windows 10 installation on geting started part where before you putting name on your pc, where you can access the deaktop for pre config and inatallation of the drivers?

  11. Hi can you help me please.

I am just setting up my new PC and whenever I connect it to my Wi-Fi. All my other Wi-Fi devices start behaving funny and they internet becomes very slow.

Speaking of slow the PC is first impacted by the slow speed and all other wirelessly connected devices also start getting the same speed.

If PC is off I get 100 mb down on all devices wireless or wired.but if the PC is on, the pc gets 2mb down and all the other wirelessly connected devices also get that kind of speed.

  12. Great vid! For Windows Home Ed. you can set the value between 0-100 with 20 being the default.
"Take note instead of 0 you can put whatever number you want. The number in the Value data box corresponds to the percentage of your bandwidth you want to reserve for QoS traffic. So, for example, if I wanted to keep the QoS traffic reserve but wanted make the reserve 10% instead of 20%, I would enter 10 in the Value data box."
