With Windows 10 1903 being out for several months we are seeing the trend of Microsoft pushing people onto online accounts. The offline account option has become cumbersome and hidden. In this video, I show the new setup process and what Microsoft is doing.

  1. fun fact, you can skip the security questions entirely by setting a blank password and set the password after windows is fully set up. Also on new win10 laptops they even REMOVE the offline account option as long as you have an internet or wifi connection (meaning when you set up windows, leave the internet cable out of your desktop and dont connect to your wireless network when asked, as you will not be allowed to disconnect from it once connected!)

i actually experienced the latter on some new laptops today, yikes.

  2. Is this true that Dell, Razer, Lenovo require you to set up a Microsoft account on all their new laptops? I know that on HP, you can skip it by not connecting to internet before initial start up. Thanks

  3. When I tried to install Windows 10 Home Edition yesterday there was no option to use an offline account. And the instructions told me that I could always remove the Microsoft account AFTER I create one. Ridiculous!

  4. I set up a new windows home10 PC yesterday. I was expecting the worst things to happen. I pulled the router power cable from the wall and fired up the pc. when I got to the account page something unexpected happened. at the left bottom of the page was the option to create an offline account. I didn't have to type in a fake email address or click the back arrow. How easy was that!? maybe microsoft felt the heat and relaxed a bit.

  5. YES, after installing Win10 64 bit pro retail on 2 computers recently, the mountain of crap I have to avoid was massive. Then there was the looping around trying to get the Microsoft account working and when I got it installed, I had to de"crap" as much of the junk as possible to make the computers usable. These are retail versions, not OEM cheapies and you still have to shovel your way through mountains of junk to get it all going.

  6. I still use Windows 7, fairly new build too. MS would make billions if it released an updated version of Windows 7 for PCs only. It's an operating system that just works well without much hassle.

  7. Thanks for this, I'd been feeling like I was in the story 'The Emporors new clothes' where I was the only one thinking it was a bad plan! I hate the survailance aspect of all this data collection and the apps that pile in with updates that you don't want n didn't ask for there wasn't even an option to say no to them they just pile in.

  8. The ms Account is forced on the march 2020 update for 1909. skipped it for now . see what family wants done with the pc some time next time around as it not on that much anyway very frustrating to say the least.

  9. well, what's my opinion, you ask? Windows10 sucks and so does Microsoft. The ONLY reason I'm on Windows is because it's a simple way to use my software. If it was available for linux in a SIMPLE way, which would not require me to jump through hoops for a day or two or run VM or other adons, I would do it. As such, I will be on win7 until someone hacks it, and then I'll re-install it…. because that would take me less time and expense than dealing with Microsoft of VM…

  10. Think about it! Why you need to be online to log in to your own computer? Why do windows developer try to hide the option? Why do win 10 no need to asking you permission when updating windows? What do they plan? What is the intention?

  11. That is nothing. Try to install your companies Open License version of Office on any new computer. They are clearly making it more and more difficult to push everyone to the subscription version on Office 365. I now have to uninstall desktop apps and make two registry edits on every new PC just to install Microsoft’s own Office product.

  12. and they will turn this attitude to linux too. just watch.
the biggest problem with linux is that there are 10million ways of it and it isnt easy to "just use it" particularly if you want something more than a web/office install.the sheer amount of "you just open a terminal and……" makes linux users think it is friendly. it aint – particularly if you are a windwoes or casual user.
Microsoft are preying on this attitude. even to the point of adopting linux kernel to start taking over so they can charge subscriptions and setup single sign on privacy hax. sadly apple and google are doing the same, so if you want any online presence, you are going to have your info stolen under hidden eula requirements.

sigh. I only been waiting since 95 for a linux community to get it's poop in a pile.
