I picked up this 1937 sears waterwitch 2.5hp outboard motor up at a garage sale for $40. l was told it was a cleanout from an old timers shed. so lets see what a engine that is 83 years old is made of and can it be revived?

  1. I have one of these ,mine is a 1936-7 yours is a 1938 .I noticed you didn't use gaskets on the lower unit or carb . You need gaskets on both, 105 luberplate grease in the lower unit and a gasket on the hat of the carb for better metering of the needle adj settings and it will run allot better .Your losing vacuum in the carb to vary the speed and improve the idol.

  2. Watched both vids and they were great!
I'd love to have that for a month and try to remove some of the dents and soda blast the body and tank just to paint it up like it was originally. Just imagine ordering that back in the day and first using it! You gotta love the designs back then. Things were solid but also works of art compared to the box type designs of today.

  3. I actually had an identical Water Witch from Sears in the early 80's. I gave a few dollars for it at an old country auction. I got it running and ran it in a small creek on a 14 foot Jon boat. I loved the Jetsons look to it.

  4. Shouldn't you be running water through the motor? I know you can start it and let it run for a few seconds or whatever but you see like all the reving& stuff you were doing it should have had some water shooting through it..

I see you later in the video you hooked it up to the tank. I'm happy now

  5. And that's why, 83 years ago, boating was a man's game! Women didn't carry a cordless drill in their purse, but men had a holster. Drill – no gun. Mustie, my hero!! It's not fast enough to mess up a parosol, but fast enough to make your lady giggle if the other boyfriend only had oars. (make your own joke if you must) And the boat didn't sink!
I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Your commentary is a running string of humorous sarcasm and it's great. You're welcome here anythime.

  6. I just spent $250 and drove an hour to get a boat like that and I am still looking for an outboard engine. Man what a sweet deal. Good Job as always.

  7. Best Boxing day entertainment out there. Watching Mustie bring something older than my father back to life….and I'm a great grandfather myself now. Shèesh, that hit home.

  8. Hello my friend !! Beautiful boat and beautiful outboard!!! I always find ALL of your vehicles to be TOP, including your workshop!!! You always make great videos!! I always enjoy watching your films! Kind regards Thomas 🙂
