I didn't see any ducks on the dash. What's up with that?
What’s the cause of that clunk when shifting into Drive
The statement "needs more work" is the definition of a project Jeep.
Back in the driveway
That's a real clunker
Does troy not work for you anymore
Change out the valve filter
I came here hoping to have an answer on why my wife's XJ with 400k has no reverse when cold, LOL! She has all forward gears working fine though (minus lock-up sometimes) . The lack of 1st gear may have been a solenoid. I'm changing all the solenoids soon, have a DTC for the lock-up solenoid.
Adjust the bands one forward on back I think 82 inch lbs then back off two turns
Ray. Just an idea unrelated to this vid, You need an ultrasonic bath to clean parts
That pan on the outside was disgusting. that is so unlike you, Ray. ☹☹
Probably low on fluid
When I cycle my TJ, I go thru all of the gears and back two times. Even thru the 4X gears.
I’m always surprised how dirty the underside of other ppl’s vehicles are. Especially when they start wrenching on them and don’t bother cleaning up first. This one isn’t bad.
@RainmanRaysRepairs If you ever find yourself up in Calgary (Canada) I would LOVE to spitball with you about the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 I've been rebuilding for storm chasing.
Just be sure you come in the summer, I feel like you wouldn't enjoy a Canadian winter 😂
How much would a trans fluid flush cost me at your shop sir? I have an 06 cobalt with the 2.2 paired to an auto trans
Use a Lubelocker brand gasket on it. The make one for this transmission. Seriously good metal and silicone gasket. Seals the best I've seen in 45 years of wrenching.
As someone stuck in the rust belt it still blows my mind that these cars with 300k+ miles are still functional. At 300k all I would have left would be a small pile of debris in my driveway. You guys in the south are so lucky
Doesn't it feel good when you can pull your bag out?
25:00 what a pile of ****… would drive this to junkyard and leave it like that…
We want more of Troys Jeep Videos!
somebody get this guy a 55 gallon drum of brake kleen
to the comment below when troy gets home all he wants is a shower food and to wet the back neck not fart around so it's drive in get out sit down and eat
Nice video, Ray. I am a retired mechanic and also own a '92 Cherokee (My Toy.. lol). The AW-4 in your Jeep is well known to be virtually indestructible and replacement is rare unless it has been heavily abused. However, they do have solenoid hang-up issues when the fluid changes have been neglected. You may want to look into a solenoid issue and give it a full flush before replacing the transmission. They are relatively inexpensive.
Oh dear i think this jeep is destined for the great scrap yard in the sky.
I love your "ANOTHER" throws. My partner and i degreased her engine while changing the water pump the other day, and she threw her can away yelling "ANOTHER" after watching you.
Why don't you get a parts cleaner
There was no sound for "ANOTHAAAAA!" ðŸ˜
Why not also cleaning the outside?😮â€ðŸ’¨
Straight 6 runs for ever when they use to build things.
Troy was watching Matt's offroad recovery. Because that was Jamie on the Bluetooth
Yep just like Trail dust jeep trails.. shoot the jeep or go manual transmission if you can.. and get that f*^king lift out. PS nice wheels. Lift on XJ know way make go away. Good job 2all 🥶ðŸ²
Been needing to drop the trans pan on my xj and change fluid and filter. A lot of people warn that doing so can kill these trans though. I’ve always understood a drop and fill is ok on older and higher mileage vehicles. Just not to flush the fluids as it can move sediment and deposits. Thoughts? Thanks!

Every hammer is a tool.
I got 389,990 on mine
Watching this before going into work in my 96 Cherokee. She’s bone stock but that’s how I like ‘em. Dependable as long as you are pushing the massive rubber that Troy is, need a Dana 44 for that. I think Chrysler 8.25 rear is only good up to 33’s with stock gearing.
at least he has a spare to rebuild while the other one is on it's way out. 😀
