  1. Well it’s not worth it is not true, if you spend 2/3 k on a new one every 4/5 years, it’s worth spending 1 k and fixing the old 20+ year one up, it will last 15/20 more years and I do it all the time
New ones are junk and extremely expensive to keep up
    From a lifetime mechanic 😊😊😊

  2. I really enjoy fixing up the older mowers and putting them back in top shape, they will last other 20+ years with very little maintenance
Just standard service and keeping them out of the weather
I even bring my seats in house during winter and no more direct sunlight than necessary
This effort has saved thousands of dallors over the years

  3. Just don’t bypass safety switches unless you’re trying to finish up
Then fix it, don’t allow younger kids on the mower with them bypass please 🙏

  4. I rebuilt these old mowers all the time, I AllWAYS replace ing switch, seat switch and solenoid to start with, new battery for sure.
AllWAYS remove cover on engine every spring and clean air vent
Really spray the VS clutch unit
It may free up, or remove and replace brging

  5. I have the exact same craftsman except my hood is different. I think your is a 1999 or 2000 model. Mine is a 98. Everything else is exactly the same. I pull my deck off and rebuilt it. Had swiss cheese holes. Sanded it down and painted with POR-15. Thats been 3 or 4 years ago and still going. My old opposed twin is still running good! Enjoyed your video 👍

  6. I forgot which switch it was hahaha LOL LOL LOL I just about peed myself thank you very much for showing us good wrenching but also mistakes nobody's perfect thank you very much for the bloopers

  7. I had an 80's Craftsman with a rear-exit deck. I loved that mower. A loose screw took out the deck belt one day and the replacement cost $180!! The blades in the deck overlapped so the deck belt was a toothed timing belt. At least I could still buy one but the belt cost more than I paid for the whole mower. Live and learn. Love the vids even three years later.

  8. I bought one of those opposed twin engines for $40. to replace a single cylinder engine. Luckily it came with cables for the conversion. I have a soft spot for these engines. Only because they are obsolete. And I love the way they sound!

  9. Your videos should serve as examples of how to make instructional videos! Perfect amount of commentary, no long-winded opening, no trying to stretch out the content, decent video quality, great explanations…excellent! Thanks very much!
