Part 1: Parts Cannon!! Can it be saved? 95 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 https://youtu.be/XGx5cooQLQY
Engine barely runs and has a severe lack of power. It also has the occasional no start or long cranking before it starts. So far I’ve found vacuum leaks, clogged ports, antifreeze leaks from the water pump and the electric fan is damaged. I had the fuel pump, filter, spark plugs, ignition wires, and a distributor cap and rotor. It also has a new coolant temp sensor, O2 sensor, MAP, intake demp, IAC and throttle position sensor replaced. The ECM / PCM has been replaced too. See part one.

Holiday weekend or week
I never knew that there was a way to get codes like that didn't even know that was possible either I don't think many mechanics know that anyway
Man they make some cheese ball cap and rotors these days, when I still had my old beast I had some issues with shitty rotors, caps were shitty quality too really so bought ones with brass electrodes and never touched it again. Spark was noticeably stronger then the white metal junk in some of those parts. The replacement distributor looked to have a quality cap and rotor. Those keep engines are actually underrated they’re fucking tanks
Those cold air intakes make me cringe, people rarely if ever clean and oil them, and one time I held one up to the light for my atv and I could see pin holes all through it, sure they last the life of the engine but your engine lasts 1/4 as long. I switched back to a foam filter and got significantly more life out of top ends. That jeep probably made more power with the paper filter and probably got cooler air too.
Mechanics: That sounds terrible. Missing. Crunchy.
Me, listening: Sounds like an engine to me.
Mechanics, after working on engine: That sounds Smmooooth.
Me, listening: Sounds exactly the same to me.
…. is it just me, or do mechanics have special ears?
How do you check for timing chain slop without removing the timing cover?
Jeeps suck
check if there is no pencel mark inside that cap
My yj had a bad coolant temp sensor it told the ecu the coolant was -230° so it was dumping fuel trying to run
If memory serves me right that noise sounded like electric arching and the timing should have been set with a timing light .
Ray I thought the FI 4.0L distributor is indexed via the tab on the housing and timing is not adjustable.
I wanna see that distributor torn apart to find the failure. A new part isn't satisfying without knowing what failed!
I like OBDI, it can be fixed out in the dirt! Good job Ray!
Nice work brother! Carry on!
Sometimes the dizzy gets too dizzy!
Geez, could you have found a more sketchy part of town to do the last test drive? 🤣🤣🤣
Hey, you didn't say or show that you change, fixed or told the owner about the fan motor. Multitasking I am not sure if I missed it, so I watched again just see it I did, hahaha. Oh I did hear the rattle in the distributor, but after you change it I did hear a spark jumping, you know that so familiar tapping, hahaha. Cool job, love jeeps.
How is the takeout in t&l 2416 9th e st Bradenton fl
Hey Ray, waaaaay back, when you were just a "gleam" in you pappys eye, all manuals said the following "Replace with known good part" then "does vehicle perform properly?", yes "end diagnostic" No, "return to step 1", GM, Porsche, MB, BMW, Ford, Chrysler etc. all had this after a lengthy wirefest and connector fest of checking. Yup no help at all, so what you are doing here was normal for OBD1 and earlier electronic systems. Oh yeah, if you ever find an older Chrysler tech, ask them about Chrysler Lean Burn systems, it will really open your eyes to how bad things were. 😵â€ðŸ’«

Did you check to see if the cam chain had jumped a tooth? Some old school guys even advance the cam chain a tooth or two (on purpose) for more cam timing and torque when crawling out in the woods at lower rpm.
