I picked up this 1966 split window bus that was found in northern new hampshire that has been off the road since 1995 due to rust, so lets get it in the garage and up on the lift to see what it is going to take to bring it back to road ready condition.
after that we make our shopping list for parts then cold start the other vw buses in the shipping container to take the restored bus for a ride along the coastline .

Mice need homes too
The Volks Wagen type 1 is actually the VW Beatle. The type 2 is the Volks Wagon transporter under many different guises but the bus you have here is a type 2 bay window. I know it can be quite confusing but it is all to do with the history of Volks Wagon since the end of WWII.
When I grew up, my father had two of these. The one with the 1500 was very durable, and ran forever. The one with the 1600 dual port was junk. The 1600 dual port kept sucking valves down into the crankcase through the pistons. The 1600 dual port was the worst engine ever.
Wow I'm happy I stumbled upon yoir channel. I love sixty era volkswagens bug or buses. Without reviewing anything about your channel I can tell you are quite experienced and knowledgeable on all things VW. Would love to get my hands on a camper VW sixties era.
Hey, just curious, what do you sell this bud for ?
How much is a shipping container?
ALL SCRAP
Update on this?
Call bus lily good name for your bus
I DO like the original blue color on this new bus – nice! Also, glad to see that you put your New Blue (full of parts) in the shipping container. There's always scumbags around that would be delighted to run off with a load of hard to find VW parts. I know of a few world class ripoff scenarios where the owners didn't think anyone would steal their stuff, and didn't secure their parts and vehicles. Sadly, they were wrong.

HELL YES IT CAN BE SAVED!!!
Hi Mustie, The thing that the blue VW microbus need… There is the whole floor chassis that VW can sell it. That the top body and sides of Microbus can come off and mount the roof and 4 sides body to the brand new floor (unibody). Save a lot of trouble. In outside where there is room to raise up the Microbus. Please, look in video by Fixin Bugs
NStuff and title is VW Bug Pan removal and adding new pan. It is very reasonable and low cost. How can you run out of Gas Mustie? You carry that squeeze bottle and jumper pack everywhere you go.
That is so sweet I wish I could have it?? It would be going to a great guy and I will take care of it
find as many parts bus`s or complete ones to make a few good vw`s.
Hallo "Musti1", it's a very nice Video and very nice 3 VW Busse. I saw a lot of your Videos and happy to see how you are transfering old, rusty VW Käfer or VW Bus into very nice condition cars.
A question. What is the name of "trailer triangel" in front of the VW Bus for hooking ab him like an trailer.
In your "shopping list" you was writing something about "left dog leg". I don't understand what you mean. What is that on a car?
Thank you very much. Greetings aus Deutschland / Germania
250 hours of metalwork @ $50 per hour = $12,500 so you’d have to restore it at home yourself only, to be cost effective. To most without Mustie skills, please avoid buying one like this. Mechanicals take hours, bodywork takes days!
Love the swop around if the vw with the stash in a fixer upper ur just like sehe use
I got confused there. All that swapping.!
Please tell me, do all VWs arrve as 40% rust or do you have to pay extra? Stay well stay safe ..
Yeeeees
You need a lot of time to fix that up, might make a lot more money to part it out. OG parts are valuable and in big demand.
and of course halfway through the dog makes a debut ! lol !
Mmmm from new York
I had a boss that told us no more weekends off. Because come Monday morning he would have to retrain us all over again.
Every time I watch this I'm amazed on how complete and clean the interior is. I have the same sea blue 66 deluxe and I wish mine looked that good
For a Volkswagen bus it runs good it's in pretty good shape
I owned a 64 bus. Loved that VW.
Oh man that PYX 106 sticker from upstate NY, listened to that station all the time when I was a teenager.
Mustie1 hey is that trike made out of a Rupp chassis.??? Do you remember those ? I grew up in South Florida and there were a lot of those driving around down there at that time they were not that dependable I don't think but they sure were pretty
You can do it Mustie !!!! :<)
What ever happened to the ex police Cushman ?. You did a lot of work on it.
If your specialty was vehicle interior restoration, it would be the cheap part and the metalwork would be expensive.
What kind of lift is that?
Love the red suicide knob
Blueberry
Saw a lot of busses trashed over the years. Today this is a nice bus (east coast standards especially). Of course it is savable. You drove it in the garage and you are asking? Typical rust all replaceable. Come to Bulli Brigade and see what people are driving. I may not have seen Flintstone there but I have definitely seen his bus. Good luck with this project looks very complete.
I've wanted a split window since I was 10 or 11, and the last part of the video, of you just enjoying the day in Lucy and driving her just tickled me to death.
The New Hampshires look like a great place to live. It looks opulent but traditional and quaint at the same time. Just like the UK used to look before Tom, Dick and Harry set up home.
LOL.. opaque windshield, no brakes and pulling into your garage… what could possibly go wrong?
Every bus, cre cab, 21 window, wesfalia camper, the model that has pop out windows,( highly sought after), is worth a second chance, considering these buses have some options, you don*t see on new trucks, especially when there was no air conditioning, nor did you have to worry about overheating since they were air cooled which you don*t see anymore.
