  1. I stumbled across your channel while watching "Customer States" videos today. My first video of yours was when you looked over a car that was inspected by the dealership. Great video. That then lead me to your "Got Fired Today" video and subsequently me finding this video. Based on the very few videos I have seen, not only have you gotten a new subscriber, but also another supporter for your new endeavor. Best wishes to you and your new business. I can't wait to catch up on your more recent videos and see how far you've come! Cheers from NC!

  2. Time pump trick I'm along for the ride this whole 74 year old gazer of an old Gearhead buddy I love fixing things I still do I just can't do it on the same scale I used to I'm still learning believe me because I'm learning from you watching your videos inspire me

  3. Make sure of the location make it easy access for your customers get yourself a company you can trust to do the towing for you the liability insurance and the expense is just outrageous if you work a contract with a company that has a flatbed has a tow truck that can do the towing for you and give you a special rate You're In Like Flint. Thanks smart. Which I know you are. You will make mistakes that's natural don't get discouraged if you do push forward it's a learning experience when you make mistakes it's really not a mistake it's a learning experience. I wish you the best may God's blessings be with you don't forget to thank him when you're successful even if you're not successful for giving you the opportunity of the knowledge you will carry away with you for another challenge if need be

  4. The best thing that I could have done earlier in my life was to go into my own business but something always interrupted it and it was my fault for letting it happen you got to put your foot down make your move and then when the business become successful which I know yours will because you're good at what you do. Because you have a passion for doing the job correctly and treating your customers with honesty. That's what makes you successful not gouging them because Word of Mouth will get you more customers.

  5. That's the best decision you'll ever make in your life is to work for yourself you'll get to the point where your hire good employees not just friends but employees that are good at what they do when you need help. I watched your Demolition and it was driving me insane you had the throttle too high on the skid steer that's what gives you the jerking motion you have to tone the throttle down a little bit or you don't jerk yourself all over the place inside the machine it's faster because you'll be able to move material much better. So much for that lesson

  6. My mechanic just retired at 70. Known him for years and would often just stop off for a cup of coffee and a chat. He started his own shop about 30 years ago after being a workshop manager for 11 years with the same company he did his apprenticeship with. He ran his shop with someone on the phone, one mechanic and what we call a "handlanger" (a general dogsbody). Always did the best for his customers and never steered me wrong in 20 years. Good people are hard to find, and he was one of the best. Not gonna lie that I'm missing having him do my vehicles already, but the coffee dates continue as he stays fairly close to me, and talking about the cars we have known never gets old. Best of luck Ray.

  7. Good on you. I wish, I could do that. Where I live, that is not possible. Things in my area cost way too much and people, my age, have a hard time finding work, in this podunk town.

  8. Haven't seen any of your videos in last month or so, so didn't know what happened when came back to see video on Lexus and notice it wasn't in your normal place. But am glad to hear your going out and doing it on your own! Best of luck and know you'll do great and will enjoy not having to deal with others crap, etc. Will be watching and again best of luck!!!

  9. First off love your content, and I wish we lived closer together in sw Florida cause I would know I could trust you with my 2010 Mini Cooper, cause I loved the video you did with the mini and I also love that you are the type of mechanic that isn’t going to try to sell something the customer doesn’t need or want and you just seem like a real genuine person and I wish you all the best on your new endeavor

  10. If you run your business as well as you are in taking care of the repairs on the vehicles you have worked on, looking for saftey, whats really needed in fixing or repairing as you have shown in cars past.. You will have a successful business! You care, your honest and you work hard and diligently and that puts you above all the rest. Good Luck, looking forward in seeing you succeed in your new adventure!

  11. I wouldn't put a crapload of money into that shop if as you say, you're going to get another place. God bless you and keep up the good work!!keep every receipt in one place.

  12. Way to go . To be honest it is never the right time to go out on your own , you just got to do it ! 60 to 70% of all customers don't are not loyal to the name on a door but to the mechanic actually repairing their vehicle . Don't be scared , you'll do just fine .

  13. My only fear for you is the high cost of all the equipment  needed to  do everything. I hope you find some good garage equipment auctions and some other garages willing to share swap and trade. If so you'll be fine Ray.

  14. I agree with Leonard Cohen. You will need a girl/guy Friday to communicate with the outer world. Eric O had a gripe about all the calls form the YT public some time ago, and how it stops him from getting anything done. I reckon a call to him for advice on running your own business as a one man band might be useful. He worked on his own for a long time. Of course, there will be others who may have some sound advice too. I do not agree with everything you do, but would never try and prevent you from success. Those who would do that are pretty bloody low in my book. All the best, I will still be watching you.

  15. My old man quit his day job, dragged us out of the city and bought a hunting and fishing camp when I was a kid. He had to buy out his (lazy) partner shortly after starting the business, the crazy interest rates of the late 80's didn't help either, along with the seemingly never ending "recession". It was hard going for a long, long, LONG time, hand-to-mouth type stuff, but we always had a roof over our heads and good food. My parents ended up selling in '03, bought a few rental units and my father retired at 55. Living through that I have immense respect for anyone that opens their own business. Good luck Ray!

  16. Big step but i am sure you can make it work, you have skills to get started with, not like you are just out of school, best of luck to you good sir.

  17. So you're going the EricTheCarGuy route? lol If you haven't, maybe hit him up and ask for some advice since he did the "own your own shop and made videos" thing for years

  18. "I don't need 500 people showing up on the first day." You have a great problem my friend. The fact that you have that level of following means you're doing something right!

  19. I’m thrilled to hear you starting your own company! Like everything in life tho there is no such thing as a perfect moment. A lot of people tend to wait for the right time and that time will never come you just gotta go out and do It! I also cannot wait to start my own business 😁
