While millions of Americans have been sheltering in place, FRONTLINE has been investigating the hidden toll of the pandemic of those who cannot stay home: Agricultural workers, many of whom are undocumented immigrants, who have been deemed essential to the nation’s food supply.
In “COVID’s Hidden Toll,” numerous farmworkers speak out about their experiences of having to choose between their health and their jobs – and what they say is a lack of protection from their companies. With Latino people nationwide dying from the coronavirus at a disproportionate rate, the film examines outbreaks at several growers and meat packing plants over the past several months, and how new evidence indicates that agricultural workers have faced a heightened risk of contracting the coronavirus.

First things first covid is a man made virus second the vicines did not do what people were told they would do and look at all the long covid and people with health problems that were vaccinated young healthy with heart problems from vaccines mRNA should never be used
And now here in 2025 we're deporting these essential workers. I find it ironic that ice agents show up with masks on.
Mexican women are strong.
Shame on you Kings County Meat Packing that's just sick how you torture those poor cows and no wonder people are saying not to eat the beef!! I sure won't be now that I've seen this
Oh I recognize that parking lot where they are handing out the masks. That Fallas store used to be called Monte Mart in the 70s
I haven't been home in decades but the heart never forgets â¤
I grew up in Salinas born and raised. My Mom worked in a cauliflower shed for my whole childhood. She worked long hard hours wrapping the cauliflower with the cellophane stamped with the Celepak name
Salinas is the salad bowl capital of the world 😊
Give them alot of credit for putting food on our tables and putting their lives on the line 😢
I have so much respect for immigrants. They work so hard and don't complain. Most Americans I've worked with in the past are spoiled babies.
DETEST, SIMPLY DETEST SUB-TILES, refuse to do it in US!
"Essential Workers" during Covid Crisis when no "American" want to work the field, but become "Undocumented Aliens are taking our Jobs" soon after covid ends.
Now that is peak Hypocrisy.
This is a really stupid excuse for a documentary.
Thank you Frontline! Impressive journalism, I had no idea what was occurring. Brings about more gratitude when I bless the food my family is going to have to nourish our body. May God be with those who harvests and keep them safe!
Poor cows. What a horrible job to murder all day long. The government doesn't care about US citizens they certainly won't care about undocumented workers. God please help these people
I drive by and see these workers and always think how hard they work. I will see them this weekend going to Monterey. All conditions and thought how are they going to do their job? These same people get on a bus and go to Arizona and work the fields there also. The hardest workers by far with the lease respect.
I wish every millionaire in this world just for 1 day come with their family to Salinas Valley and do what farm workers do everyday from waking up at 3am making lunch for work making sure their kids have everything ready for school some even taking their kids like at 6am to babysitter and then go straight to work i wish they would do that for 1 day i guarantee they won’t even last 1 hour in the fields!! And these people do it all their life getting payed minimum wage etc !! Farm workers should be making minimum 100k a year!!!
What I wouldn't give to hurt the scums that hurt animals & other people .
Got the three shots, have had close contacts and pretty much all my close family got it. I never have however. Luck or just no risk factors?
ðŸ‘😠nice report
"laws need to be changed" Yeah, good luck changing/creating a law that would take away power from the wealthy just for the sake of protecting some workers' lives.
I'm sure this would have been great… But I don't speak Spanish and hate reading subtitles. Please get translators.
God helps those that help themselves. Don't just think and pray and hope that God is going to do everything for you.
Did a week in the onion field and literally shit in my pants. Glad I had National Guard annual training so I had a good excuse to pull out without embarrassing myself
Plandemic
Great documentary! But how come nobody talks about us rideshare drivers or restaurant workers who never took a day off! And made sure everybody who stayed home got fed! I’ve had Covid four times! I know others who have also had it multiple times!
The migrants are doing a very good job, BUT, they are not doing it to feed Americans, they are doing it for the pay, however inadequate. Usually as soon as they get their papers, some will leave. Maybe the government should force some of it's own people on welfare, to work for it

Why are they stepping on cow’s faces 😡 yes that’s what I took away from the video.
Laws need to be in place for farm workers, yes, but the undocumented, Absolutely Not!!! Go back to your country. Frontline, I Love, but they're trying to pluck at our hearts. Sorry but illegal is Illegal!!!
I remember seeing overly ripe broccoli for sale at the grocery and knowing the vegetable pickers we're having a hard experience with COVID-19.
I think I have forgotten how scary it was early in the pandemic.
"Voluntary quit." There are NO Orwellian depths to which corporations won't sink. Thank goodness for cell phones recording their criminal activities.
