Part 2!!! BBK Shorty Headers! Insta-LEAK! Ram 1500 5.7 https://youtu.be/sMzflWE05f4
I'm getting sea sick with this video
Every single one of the 4.7l magnum and the 5.7l hemis eventually all do the same thing. That back manifold bolt breaks, and leaks causing a ticking sound. Mine was broken, somone stripped the hole out and tried to fix it with a helicoil. That didnt work so Im stuck with it for now with a set of double gaskets on it. Until I get the ambition to go out and try to dig that helicoil out of the hole and see if I can salvage the head or not. Moral of the story, dont try to dig out broken bolts unless you know what your doing and secondly, helicoils don't work in exhaust manifold bolt holes.
5.3 liter hemi, hahahahahaha
What speed do you have your flux welder at, I'm stuck with one bolt on 3.6 pentastar
Just did both sides on mine at 140k miles. Im a mech by trade if that matters- but i had 8 bolts in total that were snapped.
All of which required being welded at least 4-6 times a piece to finally get it out
5.7
"Nobody got time for that."
Mine sounds like that, but man his sounds way worse lol. I heard a lot of people recommending the BBK Shorty headers to replace the OE ones which keep breaking quick, what's your recommendation?
I have that problem every year 500 to get fixed
If you don't have a welder, going slow with moderate pressure a little bit at a time and reoiling the bit always works with these bolts. If it's not cutting, stop immediately! Don't keep going and hoping it will eventually start cutting! You'll only waste your time and cause more unwanted problems. Trying to keep going when the bit is not cutting will only temper the bolt that you're trying to drill into even more and make it so it'll wear out newer bits faster to the point that you'll have to get an expensive carbide bit to drill it out. Some things are just not going to be able to be done in minutes even with the right, best tools and equipment. Drilling out these bolts requires a lot of time and patience.
Harbor frieght has flex welders for under $200. Would something like that be acceptable to weld a bolt on the stud trick? I ask because I want to put headers on my 2013 Ram, and I am sure bolt break will happen.
One of the few videos of welding on the block while it's still in the car & showing where you ground ✊ðŸ¾
That was way too easy on you lol. Try it on my 20yr old hemi =)
buddy, the sigh of relief I just had.. I literally paid 6 grand for a 2013 ram 1500 this week and i didnt notice it when i bought it but thats the sound. I thought it was a rod knock. it quiets down after it warms up so i thought it was oil and bearings etc what not. thats the sound. man am I so relieved right now. Now I get to go shopping for some tubular manifolds!! lol
Just put some shorty headers on my 2016 Challenger and it’s so quiet now. Buy some better no leak gaskets though, the BBK ones suck. When I bought it everybody was saying that it had lifter problems and the Hemi tick. Not a peep out of those individuals now, lol. 😂😂😂
I had to weld nuts to most of mine at 80,000 miles to get them out. Sucked.
You said 5.3 liter??
5.3😅
hey Rainman, I had the gasket and bolts replaced a year ago, and its happening again. I have another appointment next week to get it fixed again. Id rather not buy new headers if possible, but do you think that really is the best solution? I read that the stock manifold is cast, and warps and can can be planed, but it could warp again.
Ram Knows about this problem yet they do nothing…Should be a class action LAWSUIT
Auto makers have been bolting cast log exhaust manifolds on V-8 engines for over 90-years. Think of all those big block Chrysler 383 and 440s in the 1960's. that never had a problem. So how is it that Ram Engineers were unable to master this basic knowledge and correct this well known problem that runs through several model years?
