In this video I bring you along the process of replacing the upper control arms and outer tie rod ends with the brand “kryptonite” (#notasponsor) on a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The customer supplied the parts and I just bolted them on so don’t ask me what I think of them or how I feel about them or anything about Kryptonite parts in general cuz I don’t know…. -Enjoy!

  1. So I’m back with another comment and question. I managed to get the upper castor bolts out. I had to snap them off because no heat no penetrating oil was going to work. Very frustrating to say the least what’s worse is my truck being down like it is right now. IS THE WORST TIME IN MY LIFE to have a vehicle go down. Since no amount of me complaining is going to change my situation. My question now is why do these trucks rot out so badly????? My truck in particular sat in the driveway for 3 years after I bought it. Also the day I bought it I made for certain that it didn’t have a spec of rust on the frame or anywhere underneath. It’s never seen salt at best it got a little wet but that appears to be all these trucks need. To start rotting out I literally have rust everywhere underneath this truck. I’m speechless about it too because like I explained it had zero rust none zip zilch anywhere. Now it’s covered with it just from sitting in the driveway???? What in the actual heck. Oh and replacement parts I decided to go with mid grade parts for the front end and it still cost me 3400 dollars. All Brake parts and all suspension parts 3400 dollars is insane. I can’t imagine what it would have cost me to have a mechanic do it. Actually I know for a fact I could not have gotten it done by a professional mechanic.

  2. I have my 2012 gmc sitting in my garage right now and I can’t get the stinking camber bolts out. This has me freaking the heck out now i didn’t get the kryptonite upper control arms. I got the Mevotech TTX stock replacement ones. Because that’s what i could afford but i can’t get the original ones off.

  3. them fox struts make life easy…had guy come in onetime for an alignment…kryptonite arms…bushings were worn out…lifted the suspension and balljoint fell apart…they take old style 90s gmc balljoint…

  4. its ultimate trash!!! less than 3 years its worn out warraty complete shit they replace boots for ball joints but u have to send them in. vance is trash!! waste of money!!!!

  5. Take it to a shop. I would if you were close. Not even the ford dealership can do a wheel alignment and have the steering wheel straight. Great word Eric 0.!

  6. SM Auto, you are good!!!
Love that you 💕 care about your alignment mechanic.
He is renting the Bay with much love too.
The Truck looks like a Real Red Blooded American Truck!!!!🎉😅

  7. I never knew about the electronic steering stuff. My ford F150 has tgat and after I did a bunch of stuff to the front end I took it to a gord garage for a wheel alignment and truthfully the steering wheel has been crooked ever since they did the alignment

  8. the only thing "electrical" on a Motor vehicle should be ignition, charging system. starter motor, instruments/lights and a radio…PERIOD!

  9. control arm bolt factory installed head on inside hit steering column, cant drive it out, cut head off and installed new bolt head on outside, nut on inside…..!

  10. That's intresting that they told you to install the ball joints underneath. I was taught that the circular area must reside in the matching hole in the control arm, which can only work with it installed from the top. Maybe not, right?

  11. I've got an 07 Chevy Suburban 1500 4-wheel drive and put tires on it and found out I needed a alignment which was way out of whack. Mechanic starts working on it and then comes to me and says he snapped off one of those bolts on the upper control arm trying to do the alignment. He says the bolt is seized and wants to sell me a $300 upper control arm! I look online and they are less than a hundred bucks each. It strikes me how are they going to get the bolt out to remove the arm? He's talkin about cutting it with a torch! I said no thanks and drove away. There's got to be somebody who can do this and I'm guessing there's nothing wrong with the upper control arm. How do you get a bolt out that snapped off?

  12. Just in case anyone else is looking the KR6696 factory style press in upper ball joint is orientated with the index mark to the OUTSIDE. Apparently Kryptonite can't get that basic info included with their products as far as I can tell I got NO instructions and they have nothing on their website. After emailing them they sent me instructions they blame on new employees omitting a print out from the packages.

  13. Going to do this to an Avalanche LTZ, it has autoride, is it necessary to go with new upper control arms? Going to replace the factory struts with the same fox 2.0. 2 inch lifted strut

  14. I've been thinking about doing some front end work on my '05 Silverado. Curious, why didn't you/they do the lower control arms/ball joints when doing the uppers? Hope someone sees this.
