In a previous video https://youtu.be/5dHnnnQytns I had a look at a Buick Roadmaster that had no high beams and no brake lights. It’s now time to swap out the turn signal switch and see if all the brakes lights work again. -Enjoy!

1972 cadillac wouldn`t pass inspection because you said it, the three bolts from the bottom of the column that hold the tilt mechanism together came loose [no Loctite like they slobber all over everything now] even bumper bolts that won`t come loose till they turn to hot liquid. took4-5 hours but got to them, took 2-3 minutes to tighten up, reassembled and never touched the assembly again. [never had to]
Very painful to watch.. i used to use a long thin blade screw driver to push the connector through. I worked by myself mostly. No problem.
You're the best always enjoy your videos. When I moved from Colville Washington in 2016 they still had the noon whistle
Thanks for your exelent explaining and for your time, you are exelent teacher.
I want to fine a mechanic like you in wich you can trust.
Good bless you Sir.
Could You Pull The Air Bag Fuse
Ok when you said push push push . I thought you were talking about why mrs O is like her oven ? So eric asks why is Mrs O like her oven ? You need to warm her up before you stick your meat in it ! There you go Eric you’re joke for the day !
-Just did this work on my '94 Roadmaster today.
-The left turn signal wasn't cancelling.
-The problem was that a single spring (within the turn signal switch) was broken. the turn signal switch assembly itself does NOT need to be removed, as Eric did in this video. He rightly replaced this switch because of burnt terminals.
-This is a very common issue for old GMs.
-I was able to buy a new spring, The part number is 49312. they come in packs of 2, so you can replace both springs if you want. But from what I understand, the right turn signal spring is much less likely to break.
-I hope this helps somebody.
The video may be 3 years old, but I need to replace the turn signal switch in the column of a '94 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon that used to belong to my father.
Somehow, whenever I searched for a video on the switch removal, this did not show up as onecof the results.
I didn't see it until yesterday, and surprise! It was was from SMA!
Even with all of the "errors" (hazard warning flasher knob?), it is a great video illustrating what to expect and what to go through.
Thanks for the video!!!
Thanks for posting this video. I wouldn't have been able to do the same job without your help. Well done
I was wondering i know this a older video but , my brights don't work because the rod I can't figure out where it hooks to on that little piece of plastic on the side of the column. Or if I'm missing a piece to hold it. Do you have any insight thanks.
The Buick Roadmaster came out before you were even thought about old son. The first Buick Roadmaster was introduced in 1936 along with several other models on the Buick chasis.
The bad / the broke /the jacked up the Mr fix it him self will find you and he will fix you 😂
Can you post Iin description the size torx or socket you use, in videos? It should give you a starting size to try at least…
Also you should edit in a jump scare at the 4:13 mark -LOL
What were the things you had to "hook up under the vehicle"? Did you mean the connectors under the dash?
That steering column was notorious for the 4 bolts under the tilt wrist coming loose. I made a puller for the wrist pins, which had to come out to get at the bolt heads. I never had problems with the wire harness, probably because these had no airbags.
Thanks Eric!
I gotta replace the Cancellation Springs on my Roadmaster, I'm not looking forward to hooking up the Air Bag. I might just not hook the thing back up.
I always used to keep the old turn signal return springs on old switches because I would come across so many vehicles that had broken ones, especially the right side. Also, I would put a length of mechanics wire on the connector end of one coming out, once out attach the wire to the new one and pull it straight down, never had an issue, quick and easy!
Instructional and Destructional. Very Cool!
How do i know if the signal switch i need is for a no key system or single key system? Thanks
I had to put a TS switch in a 2000 Eldorado recently and the column was exactly like that one. I ended up having to de-pin the connector because I don't have a lovely assistant, I don't even have an ugly assistant, so that was the easiest way for me to do it. Great video as usual. Thanks for showing.
But the whole watering assembly comes out from the bottom you just need to disconnect the harness off of the steering column and pull out the plastic keepers and then voila there you go it comes right out easily you don't have to cut the wires!
