  2. Gotta index the max and min travel on the front deraileur. Should be 2 little set screws on the deraileur itself, should fix the problem. One of those screws is limiting how far the shifter on the handlebar itself is allowed to wind up that cable by physically preventing the deraileur from traveling any further.

  3. By now you may have found out that Shimano rapid fire shifters seize if not used for some time, the problem is the grease oxidises and stops a tiny pawl from engaging in the ratchet mechanism, the cure is exactly what you did! Shoot it with WD40 or similar and work it free.
    The plastic screw you took out isn’t an oil point, it’s where you change the inner cable without having to dismantle the shifter 😉
