In this video I show you the process I use to replace the transmission valve body in Subaru with the TR580 CVT trans. This one goes on top of the transmission and not in the pan. It would be nice if Subaru made just the lock up solenoids available instead of buying an $800 valve body. -Enjoy!

I did everything accordingly. The car drove okay for a few miles and all of a sudden started stalling when coming to a stop. Now it stalls when putting the car in reverse or drive. at oil temp light flashes but no codes. Did relearn again and it went away but still stalls. Light flashes again now with no codes. Ugh
Few years old I see, however I like this style of video fine. Replacing valve body from the top, those Subaru’s are interesting to work on for sure! 💪💪
Excellent video! Keep it up!
Its ashamed what todays cars have turned into, way too many electronic BS no one needs. I have a 06 Subaru and of course none of the electronic bs. I won't touch anything newer than 2010.
Dorman makes the solenoid
Im going through the same thing currently with my girlfriends 12 impreza at oil temp light flashing engine light on p0700, c1431, p02764 after some research I found as you said a valve body is just under a grand dorman has come out with just the solenoid for 55$ that a qt of fluid the gasket and o rings were in it about 100$ for 100$ ill roll the dice and see how it goes! Dorman part # on the solenoid is 926-408
These work for most of us thanks for making these 73 stil learning everyday
30 years with my own shop ðŸ‘
The way you looked at the camera and said "We're on day 5" I actually burst out laughing. Excellent video Eric, I'll be doing this job in my driveway for a friend soon!
31:10 New York is so pretty. As a former CT resident, I miss the countryside.
Nice video. Now I feel confident I can do my own when it fails
Excellent, very informative and comical thank you!
Could I please get part numbers for the gasket and o rings?
De solenoid is bij AliExpress los te bestellen, ca 50 dollar.
Beter dan hole valve body ask the customer.
Nearly every car manufacturers bij Chinees parts
Plenty of good solenoids now under $60. Going to do this myself soon.
Never but a vehicle with a cvt. Never
I had the same problem with my guide pins. Same problem pin. Except my pin ended up coming out of the trans body still stuck in the cover. Took me about 2 hours. Except for the pin, it was relatively easy. Do you recommend anti seize on the pins ?
I Have just the P0700 on my 2014 crosstrek. Will it still be the solenoid?
I like all the videos you put out. You sharing your knowledge is pure gold. Thank you!
Great video. Added to my list of Subie "how-to's".
I'll be doing the single solenoid replacement soon (P2763, '15 OB 2.5l) now that Dorman has them available.
Four years later, and for us DIYers, the lockup solenoid is available from Dorman as a 926-408. Preparing to install one in my 2013 CT because of the light show and P0700/P2764.🤞ðŸ¼
Great video. I am replacing my daughters 135K mile valve body and your video gave me a lot of insight. I have access to a scanner for the post scan so wish me luck!
How do i get the right 1 to suit my 2012 xv
I often find resistance tests to be a waste of time. I don’t understand why dealerships still teach this.
I still learned a ton. I still got to hear the always fun Eric O humor and thought process. Got to see Mrs. O. Another great SMA production in my opinion. Thank you and the family for what you do!
Aluminum…your not EU so not Aluminum you British cigarette lol.
So I got my stuck cover off, put in a new valve body, took the pan off, put a new filter in, sealed it back up and I'm at the point where l added fluid and cycles through the gears and added more fluid. I noticed that now there is a noise coming from the engine compartment. Almost like when you do a continuity test and it has the sound. Ringing it out. The car runs okay but it is loud and unnerving. The last time I heard something like this was when I change my spark plugs and cracked a spark plug. So I think it's something electrical. I'm going to go back and check the grounds and make sure I didn't miss plugging in something however I don't think it would run if I didn't plug something in. Anybody have a suggestion? I also got a GEARWRENCH GWSMARTBT bi directional scan tool and that won't connect to any of my cars. Having fun with tech support. It's just the dongle the one that cost like $125 and the verdict is out whether or not this will even do a CVT relearn or even give me the CVT fluid temperature.
Hi. Does this need to be programmed after replacement? Thanks.
I'm following along with your video and I'm at the point where I can't get the valve body cover off. How long did it really take you guys to get that thing off? I'm trying to bathe it with PB blast, hit it with the torch, tap on the dowel and pry it a little without breaking the thing. I was just curious how long took you to get that cover off. I'm in New Jersey so I'm in the rust belt too. My XV is a 2013. And I might have missed something but how many quarts do you need of the CVT fluid to do the swap?
