love your videos
Probably get a strap wrench to work on that oil filter. Caterpillar make/ sell a really good one.
Hey ray forgot something or didn’t mention it when installing oil pan to put sealer or sealicon dubs on four corners of engine
I just did a oil pump on an LS motor and I bought the timing cover alignment tool, oil adapter prime the motor, and shimmed the oil pump rotor. Now I feel like over thought the job. Lol
Why not an oil filter wrench?
Wondering why a new water pump wasn’t put in while you had it apart. I’m old back in the day they weren’t that expensive but now who knows
That Oil Filter was special order and comes with a visit by King Kong to install and tighten for vindictive mechanics.
Thanks!
Yep love your stuff zip tie those stretchy belts
Good video as always @Rainman Ray's Repairs
That oil filter was put on with all the torque not good more pry bar goodness @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Oil filter’s apparently need a PSA announcement printed on them: attention no need to monkey f**k me on.
This may have been already asked, but why did you not change the filter when the pan was off the engine?
Should have clean the throttle body while there ?
I have 5 correct tools that fit all brands of filter bottoms. No prybar needed.
Lube the threads on the crank tool
you're very good at what you do… I would consider you a natural mechanic. To think you're filming and working at the same time puts you on another level. Stay well and thanks
Harbor freight has a three jaw oil filter wrench that works wonders for them Chevy filters were you don't have a lot of room between the filter and the pan.
I've become envious of the frequency of your oil pan gaskets on these 2wd chevys. I've always had to convert the 4wd to 2wd before doing the pan gaskets or motor mounts. Believe it or not, I have done an oil pump without removing the pan. It is not easy nor do I recommend it but it can be done. Love the videos.
dont worry what others think let haters hate
I'm just here for your algorithm
25:05 It is beyond frustrating when I get a car and the oil filter was cranked on beyond reason. There is no reason to twist them on that tight.
Ray… invest in a strap wrench for oil filters , tine saver… they are in 3/8 drive variety.
Whoever put that oil filter on needs to not do anymore oil changes! That was way to tight!
Needs to be only hand tight, Only !!!
Few tips on these gm trucks. If you get a ac compressor belt from the dealer it comes with the install tool. Make sure to align the front cover with the tool or put the crank pulley on before tightening the bolts. The cam and crank marks are supposed to face each other. Always replace the cam gear “bolt†if you take it off. Other than that its all good🫡
if that filter problem arises again, pound a long screwdriver through the filter and use it as leverage device. using the screwdriver is a whole lot easier. the pry bar just creates more work.
Ray, I was just thinking when you put up the oil pan, unscrew the oil filter🛢. Then you won't have to beat the s***t, out of it.
Love the "Drama Music"!!
zip ties work better for stretchy belts
I'm sure u already know but I always use a 3 jaw oil filter claw on the ls. Easy quick
Copy Eric O. Use a thrust bearing to reduce the friction.
As for holding the bolts I was taught in the USAF I keep a small tin of 90 weight grease and put that on the bolt head, that will hold the bolt to the socket
27:35 – the world could be a better place but it starts with the guy who designed that oil filter that way. He should be forced to change about 100 of them before the final design.
Was there room to use an oil filter socket. If so a lot easier
Damn this owner went all out. Good job, all very necessary repairs.
Could've changed fitter while off Tahoe
hi do you went to die say yes or no
This was enjoyable to watch. Great example of how to tear down and assemble one of these beasts, and nice little trick with the coat hanger. I hate stretch belts! Always satisfying when everything just goes right.
