Engines are seriously scary if you think about it. All that precisely machined metal, the hardest most durable substance on earth that humiliates the hardest parts of our own body and entire general environment around us, all crafted insidiously into this pumping cranking machine floating in oil. It’s like a violent little pipe bomb it really is HARD if you think about its internal functioning the reality of the forces and mechanism there to have come out of the human mind…
Funny that's what I say to my son ,,it won't hurt to spray those,, little PB blaster LOL
I half dozed off while I was watching the video and when he used the wire brush of the grinder with its loud noise it was a very dramatic wakeup!!!
cilinder gasket and rings you should do it
The usual very enjoyable watch, thanks Darren for your You Tube videos, always fun and instructional ðŸ‘🔧⚙ï¸ðŸª›
"Dangling rod". LMAO!
Reminds me about how I used to do this kind of work one day and have to be ready next day to go to work. Back in the day it cost me 50.00 a head for 1600 dp heads. 1985. Nice to have an engine stand too. I hate to say people throw away those bellows thinking "I dont need that" then wonder why it does not run right.
Is Brian your son?
I love to watch your videos
When I watch Mustie operate on an engine, I wonder what he might have accomplished had he decided to to be neurologist and operate on the human brain instead. I would have let him prod inside my head anytime.
Nice Bug , I would like to see if it is possible to put a motorcycle clutch on the shifter. I’m missing a left leg
Musti the vw and corvair are almost identical. There are excellent instructions on both forums on reconditioning it isn't hard good luck you have an excellent program an exceeding varied.
If I had the heads off, I would change the rings at least and make sure the pistons and cylinders were truly round and honed.
How complicated it is to take a Volkswagen engine apart, a 60s American car doesn't have that problem, just remove the heads by taking off the intake and exhaust manifolds.
Very similar to a small airplane engine.
Thats interesting, i didnt know the vw valve* cover wasnt bolted
LMAO WOW, That's something new to me… "self tapping screws " to hold exhaust to the head..
🤯🤯🤯
Well this gave me severe anxiety.
I love VEE DUBS. So simple, but there is a right and wrong way to do things. Mustie does it right. How someone ruins a set a heads is beyond me. Mustie making me a fan of VEE DUBS. Awesome!
I love that instead of just doing it yourself you had Brian do it. It's nice to be able to teach what you know, not so you don't have to but so that others can learn and do it for themselves. Promotes growth for both parties
By today's standards Beetles were terrible cars, but loveable.
So what seals the bottom of the jug to the block?
Nice pair of jugs.
I just can't remember the last time I had to did the snow out of my truck bed. Oh, now I remember. Never 🙂
Mostly Trouble free Engines, Valves must be Adjusted Regularly-loose valves just a rattle–Tight ones not good-will general burn valve and then the oil consumption starts. I've owned two VW's, a 1965 that I used for a Mud Machine and a New 1972 Super Beetle that was used for the Highway–wish that I still had the 72 one, candy apple red with Crager Mags and Performance Exhaust kit…
hmm those old vw engines sure are nice and simple
Bail clips always up! Then you don't get the cover jammed up. You know that.
I would love if you would just point out what I need to do with my Baja VW bug outside
Dear God , what does it take to kill a Bug engine?
Brian: "PLLEEAASSEE mistah mustie, can't I use the cordless impact??" Mustie: "NO! Noobs get hand tools. Maybe when you graduate…"
Has anyone explained self-drilling vs. self-tapping?
Call it what you want, but there is a difference.
Ok I get it, it’s a VW. but for 85 bucks new jugs and pistons are out of the question? Your already there….
did anybody check to see if the oil ring spaces were 30 degrees apart
Got the valve cover bales on upside down! lol
If people would just put anti-seize on all bolts that are connected to Heated Metal, it would make breaking down things much easier…
