Thanks for posting this years ago. I bought a 4000 watt 8 hp briggs for 75 dollars. Had to clean tank with mineral spirits and replace on off fuel valve. Clean the carb. The biggest unseen problem i see with these is the usually have a frozen govenor linkage. I freed the up and it responds to loads way better. Thanks again.
You pull the plug and hook a drill up
cool I just the other day acquired pretty much the same engine and generator , today was looking to do the carb and you showed me all I need to know thanx ,cool vids !
What’s the muffler you went with?
So I sit here in my shop on the Kenai peninsula Alaska, staring at a similar Briggs I just got from the dump also with a sloppy pull cord and missing the muffler. Mine fired up with minimal effort and everything works! I think the owner didn’t realize it had a fuel shut off! Had fresh gas in it!
Did you immerse the parts in gasoline? Was that how you cleaned it?
For the pull start use WD-40!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE your Vw
Hello there I have an old Coleman powermate generator 54 series 4000 watt generator. It's an 8 hp Briggs and Stratton engine. Your generator looks to have the same air filter. Do you know a part number for the air filter?
Leave the plug out when you just want rpms to test generation.
dead by daylight
Hey Mustie, do you know if one of these engines could be used as a replacement engine on a locke mower?
Mustie ! @5:30 what is that blue machine tool in the background, have you found it a good machine?
Mustie1, I first came across you in various VW videos … very engaging, but a bit over my skill level. This video, however, is perfect and I want to get a similar generator running. Thanks for showing so much of the details as it will be invaluable as I attempt my project.
I think you are very clever , is there anything you can't repair,,apart from the boat engine ,, lv your channel ,brilliant
thanks love the show
Hi, I just picked up an old katolight Genny. Its shockingly similar to this one in this video. Ive been searcing for parts but i cant seem to find any, Im thinking I will just order parts for this thing. can you give me model number on this??
My neighbor was getting rid of his Coleman 1997 2250Watt generator. FREE! I knew I would get it working and I did. It was the brass float in carb. It had two cracks in it and filling with gas. Rebuilt carb and new float, runs like new again, won't tell him that! LOL. Can't find the owners manual on line though. Also put a new pull cord on too.
So awesomethat you had one same as the one I was gifted. Mine leaked gas from the carb area. Thinking the float has some issue and it probably needs some good can cleaning (what was that cleaning soluction by the way?). Thanks a bunch for the close ups and step by step….Peace
Looks like my sears generator except my take is attached to the bottom of the carb
