  1. What the hell is that THING in front of the carb?? I've had many air cooled vw's but never seen one of those. I'm guessing its a fuel solenoid cut off or maybe a something to do with vacuum – a brake booster maybe?!?!

  2. your nut-splitting technique is the best thing i have seen on youtube in quite a while. i have just the job waiting for it, too. thanks !

  3. Thank you so much mustie1 for showing us that I've never seen the inside of a VW engine that is way cool the way than things come apart. I would love to try and rebuild one but I don't know if I have the talent for it. They look pretty simple are they?

  4. I had a VW in Germany and on the way back from visiting relatives in Frankfurt the rocker assembly on the right side broke off and it took us three hours just to go 60Km back to the house

  5. HI ARE U SHURE IT WATER WHEN U SHOWED THAT ENGINE LAST VIDEO IT WAS 50 PSI NUMBER 4 VALVES NOT BENING WORKING RIGHT WOULENT THAT CAUSE UNBURNT FUEL AND GO IN OIL AND MAKE OIL LEVEL HIGHER?????

  6. Awesome vid as always! I used your method to remove the horribly deteriorated nuts from my exhause manifold, but I’m afraid the studs are too far gone to be reliable. Would you think a machine shop would typically have a reliable way of removing and replacing them without resorting to oversized studs?

  7. Normally it's cyl #3 that begins getting low compression first due to its running hotter due to placement of oil cooler in the way of its getting air. Not sure why this engine had blowby on #4.

I used to do the same thing with a cold chisel to get the exhaust system nuts off but I'd put Liquid wrench on them first and try Turning them with the cold chisel. If a nut didn't turn, I'd keep on hitting it until it either turned, or split.

There may be pushrod tube available that you can put on without first taking a head off but yes this engine needs the heads off anyway.

  8. it used to be t hat my #3 cyl would quit at about 50K miles….I did not know how to do stuff and no internet in those days. now people can watch you and learn what to do and I can only see what I should have done 🙂 great vids, thanks
