What the hell is that THING in front of the carb?? I've had many air cooled vw's but never seen one of those. I'm guessing its a fuel solenoid cut off or maybe a something to do with vacuum – a brake booster maybe?!?!

Ohh boy, nothing like splitting nuts, my favorite
Do believe that tube was damaged by something hitting it! That type of damaged isn’t from the push rod. Was a sharp object that did damage.
I would like to see you use a tap on them stud threads a tap is not for an outside thread you mean put a die on the threads
your nut-splitting technique is the best thing i have seen on youtube in quite a while. i have just the job waiting for it, too. thanks !
I love working on OLD VW Engines Amazing Engineering
The exhaust are from the Käfer(Beetle) not from the bus.
Thank you so much mustie1 for showing us that I've never seen the inside of a VW engine that is way cool the way than things come apart. I would love to try and rebuild one but I don't know if I have the talent for it. They look pretty simple are they?
hey hey hey, time for a big reveal and please bring back this project and get it finnished …………………..you got the new space?
I had a VW in Germany and on the way back from visiting relatives in Frankfurt the rocker assembly on the right side broke off and it took us three hours just to go 60Km back to the house
Don't you people believe in rat bait.
HI ARE U SHURE IT WATER WHEN U SHOWED THAT ENGINE LAST VIDEO IT WAS 50 PSI NUMBER 4 VALVES NOT BENING WORKING RIGHT WOULENT THAT CAUSE UNBURNT FUEL AND GO IN OIL AND MAKE OIL LEVEL HIGHER?????
The nut removal trick is classic thanks
Good show!
There is a nut splitter you can buy
Awesome vid as always! I used your method to remove the horribly deteriorated nuts from my exhause manifold, but I’m afraid the studs are too far gone to be reliable. Would you think a machine shop would typically have a reliable way of removing and replacing them without resorting to oversized studs?
I"ve watched several videos and enjoy them. Is it just me or have you never said the word rings?
Excellent videos, I get so engrossed I sometimes forget to like, but great tips thanks
what size of engine is this
Love your videos man. I swear, only guy im subscribed to, being a lisenced mechanic. Love the commentary and all your builds. ðŸ‘
Great video Bud 👠🇬🇧
Darin THANK YOU for the nut removal tip!……………You have no idea how valuable this info was.
hi i am buying a 1800 engine? as is to rebuild? good for oil beetle!
Lots learnt awesome upload
Really enjoying all the vids. Thank you for taking the time to make them. I hope to find a double cab sometime that doesn't require the sale of a kidney.
Normally it's cyl #3 that begins getting low compression first due to its running hotter due to placement of oil cooler in the way of its getting air. Not sure why this engine had blowby on #4.
I used to do the same thing with a cold chisel to get the exhaust system nuts off but I'd put Liquid wrench on them first and try Turning them with the cold chisel. If a nut didn't turn, I'd keep on hitting it until it either turned, or split.
There may be pushrod tube available that you can put on without first taking a head off but yes this engine needs the heads off anyway.
nice nut splitting tutorial. hate galded bolts nuts.
Great video, interesting to watch full strip down and learn all the components
would you hit the studs with a wire wheel or brush 1st and then the tap to make it easier on the threads
hay hay what do say time to clean
I love this and wish you finish the double cab
low compression;… what about valve clearance? (0.006" intake and exhaust)
Nice tip on splitting the nuts
it used to be t hat my #3 cyl would quit at about 50K miles….I did not know how to do stuff and no internet in those days. now people can watch you and learn what to do and I can only see what I should have done 🙂 great vids, thanks
