In this video I help Josh diagnose his first car in the shop. Now Josh did not grow up around cars and despite working in the shop with me he has not had any hands on experience with diagnosing or electronics. He has been on brakes and tires and does those very well now. He has made it through his first year of trade school which is mostly classroom time. I want to start helping him, apply what he is suppose to be learning and hopefully give him a head start over his peers for the upcoming year. Josh is a fantastic brake and tire guy and I hope he starts to pick up on the diagnostics a bit and can start to grow. The only way to do that is to start, make mistakes along the way, learn and hopefully grow. Just remember we all had to start somewhere. -Enjoy!

Nothing against Josh but once again you proved college is more of a waste of money. Working under a master mechanic is the best way to learn a trade. I aploud you Mr O for passing on the knowledge.
Congratulations Josh. It takes time and patience. You are very fortunate to be working with a very talented mechanic. Stay focused and learn. Master the basics or they will kick you in the but.
Welcome to the trade. You’re going to do great. ðŸ‘
colleges do NOT teach nothing waste of money. He does not know even what voltage is
You had some very good patience with Josh when he was hooking up the meter to test voltage, but I woulda just told him he had it hooked up wrong instead of quizzing him about how he had it connected.
Hey how is Josh doing now? 7 years later, is he a seasoned vet now? If he’s still turning wrenches then he has to be smarter now.
You are a great teacher Eris O. Very good job.
Wish i could find someone like you to learn from. Josh is a lucky dude!
Keep in mind that relays may click but once in awhile still won't make contact, sometimes intermittently due to being burnt. So check electrically or replace if needed.
Wife had a NEW MGB that intermittently would not start. Dealer couldn't figure it out after several tows to the shop. One day when it failed We found that there was power at the batt connector then at the wire but not at the lug that went to the starter. A new batt cable was made & solved the issue .
Nice job for father and son to be teaching his son
I might have fired him already?
Working for you might be better than trade school. Your unreplacable?
So awesome you did this ! I’m sure Josh will appreciate your patience and be thankful for taking the time to teach him.
One thing I learned working on newer car to fix something you have to tear half my motor a part to get to one thing that take all day ten minutes to fix part and all day to put back together.
I learned a lot my father on working on car from the 60 and 70. And was the best at rebuilding tranmission. My dad also worked on straight 8 and a lot v 12. My uncle would tell me story's of my dad working on their cars. Even Chevy dealers ship would come to dad for help on tranmission. One time I went with dad to Chevy dealers ship in town. To get parts. They offered him a job rebuilding tranmission for 20 dollars. An hour this back in the 1970. That was very big money back then. Grand papa. My father dad tried to talk him in to take job. Back then 20 dollars was unheard of. Papa tried for one month talking to dad. But didn't like working inside and someone looking over his shoulder. Dad always talked about working on 1939 Lincoln zephyr with v 12 or v 16. Later on in live .I drove around looking old cars and antiques to buy and sale. Dad wanted to buy Lincoln zephyr 1939 or 1940. I knew of two different people that had Lincoln zephyr. My dad was like a kid in candy store looking at Lincoln zephyr. But too much money to buy. 20,000 or 40,000. And still had to fix up and put 80,000 in it. To old now. No way to fix up now. Bad health. My father passed away in 2006 massive heart tic. I sure do miss my father. Has I write to you. Back in December 2 2024. I had open heart surgery. I had aneurysm in my heart cut out and bad valve in my heart. Put a new one in. To change spark plugs in my car. Take all day. It's great seeing you work with kids.
Very great video.
Aftermarket. Garbage 😂😂😂😂😂⤠love it
I know this is an old video but I wish you would do a whole lot more videos like this because I'm a newbie. But thanks for this video Eric O at South main Auto
Great video. Great Teacher, Great Student.

The nicest boss ever I totally agree and would of loved working with Eric being trained by the best
Great teacher ðŸ‘
He could not ask for a better learning experience! I didn’t question her remote start until my daughter came to me saying she came out to the car and found it running at lunch time.
Fantastic process of elimination.well explained and the step by step instruction was very informative. Awsome show of patience and dad skills.
Mr O. You don’t need some guy on the internet to tell you, but man you are an exceptional instructor with a vast mental library and diagnostic approach! Josh will someday look back and value that experience ðŸ‘ðŸ»ðŸ‘ðŸ»
If Josh spends a summer with you he will probably have the school teachers job soon!
On my 07 Vibe which is a Toyota, the small ground wire on the aftermarket starter will sometimes loss connection. It is a clip-on type of connection that on the aftermarket starter doesn't seem to fit as tight as the factor starter. Every once in a while, the ground connection due to the not so tight clip needs to be pushed to make the ground connection. When this happens, the dash lights work, but the starter will not engage. No click, nothing.
I think Josh did great. You can tell he's still learning, but gets the basics. I also like that you didn't just feed him answers, you made him think it through. I, like you, am a hands on learner, and think that is the best teacher. 30 years in this business and I still learn every day. Well done Josh!!ðŸ‘ðŸ‘
You should consider being an instructor
JOSH YOU ARE THE LUCKY FELLA.I WOULD LOVE TO BE IN YALLS CLASS WHEN YOU CORRECT THE TEACHER!!! GREAT JOB O
All the best to you, Josh! Mr. Eric, thanks for teaching the next generation a very necessary trade!
Everybody starts somewhere also he was filmed so that's a factor to consider.
Those Radio Shack 50 in 1 Kits were brilliant with educating circuitry. They were were a gold mine of education…Can you imagine what they could bring in today?
Great teacher by keeping it simple explaining
You go Josh,
Eric is wise, get the big picture prior to diagnosis
This has to have been a greta experience for Josh. Great job Mr. O.
I am an industrial mechanic myself and i will say this, not every senior mechanic that you meet along the way is willing to pass on his/her knowledge, hoodoos to you. Great stuff as always, I have been following your channel for quite a long time, my friends consider me a me a car mechanic already I laugh and say not quite there yet but for sure I know a whole lot more than when I did my first break change. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I've watched a lot of your videos. This was by far my favorite.
