What about locking your steering wheel so it remains centered before removing the steering column from the stearing gear box?
Even though it added frustration, that steering system literally is designed to stay together even without fasteners. Kind of adds a small amount of piece of mind for all of us driving one of these, or one that employs the same techniques. It was clear that center support was specifically added to keep that center bar from just dropping away.

So question. In some videos, you say you'll wait for owner's approval, and other you don't. Are you given carte Blanche in those cases? I work in a dealership parts warehouse, and see a lot of approvals on wait, unless it's a warranty job.. which obviously this isn't.

Have you never seen where adjusting the steering gear is an option? I know the output snout was leaking and an easy fix but there is always the option to adjust the play in the box. Just wondering from an 80’s tach.
I live in Michigan. That truck is in brand new condition compared to trucks up here that have a few years in the snow.
Put some maskingtape in the socket to prevent the fastener from falling off.
