For all the mock up you do you should look into a set of temporary rivets that you can use to hold tight, then let go https://www.amazon.com/Cleco-Temporary-Fastener-Rivet-Repair/dp/B01M2AFV4Y as an example, we use these a lot during mock up of other stuff for steel work.
