U.S. Air Force Aircrew members, with the 73rd Special Operations Squadron, conduct maintenance prior a departure and a live fire training mission in an AC-130J Ghostrider gunship above Eglin Range, Florida.
The 73rd SOS provided close air support to U.S. Army Rangers by firing 60 105mm rounds and 300 rounds of 30mm ammunition.
The training exercise allows to maintain proficiency and readiness.
The AC-130J Ghostrider gunship is a highly modified C-130J aircraft, and fourth generation gunship that contains advanced features. The primary missions of the AC-130J are close-air support, air interdiction and armed reconnaissance.

In the 80’s the AC-130 were 7.62 mm Mini guns, 40 MM guns and 105 mm. They were brutal power. I saw them light up a mountain at night. Priceless!
