Assembling the Engine Oil & Cooling Systems | Farmall 856 Restoration Episode 13

I’m back onto the Farmall 856 tractor restoration, and it’s time to start reassembling the tractor with freshly painted parts! This episode focuses on the left and front sides of the engine, and the assembly of the engine oil supply and cooling systems. The D407 engine in this tractor is known for being leak-prone in these areas, and I show how to prevent/repair these leaks with new gaskets and seals.

  1. Great progress on the Farmall 856! I’ve been following along, and the engine work is looking clean. Anyone else restoring old tractors like this? Would love to hear about your projects!

  2. Pete do you have a part number for those quad rings you used for the crossover tube off the pump? Im doing this job on my DT407 in my 1026 hydro and the stock o rings leak like crazy and didn't help me at all.

  3. You are the best of the family farm channels on YouTube — I particularly like the use of old, paid-for, tractors and equipment. I also like the diversified farming you practice, the inclusion of slaughter, and it is nice to know that even architects can find happiness in new careers.

  5. Gooday from Australia, 🦘🇦🇺. New subscriber . I have only just found your Chanel and I am following this tractor resto from Ep1. A very methodical and thorough restorations, congrats .

  6. At 12:41 I couldn't see if there was a gasket installed on the right side of the oil cooler. Keep up the good work, thanks for taking us along! Update… I think I can see it later in the video.

  7. Hope all is well Pete!!! You should host a day in the life at “ just a few acres farm” would love to come work with you and learn more about your way of doing things!! Especially would love to learn more about and pick your brain on the farmall H!!! -Aaron (south western) Pennsylvania

  8. The vintage tractors from that era were certainly worthy of a good restoration . It would be interesting to know a ballpark estimate on the number of hours and cost when done?! Great work !!

  9. As a former aircraft mechanic, I find the engineering of the oil supply line into the oil cooler as a pain in the neck for many tractor owners. Clamps or fittings of some type would surely have been a better option. That said, I'm fascinated by your skills and ability to explain your work. Thank you, Pete.

  10. Pete if you ever wish to sell this beautiful 856 I would very much love to take it off your hands. Seriously, would definitely be interested in buying this tractor if you ever want to sell.

  11. Hope you’re all staying warm. I remember as a kid those winds whipping the signs all around up at the Pyramid Mall area and out N. Triphammer Rd. and just brutal cold from the lake effects. But I also remember the drive along Route 34 during the summer as being beautiful out through Lansing as my parents on occasion would drive us around Cayuga Lake and later my wife and I doing the same with our kids. Love your channel!😊

  12. Glad to have you back ,Pete. I enjoy your knowledge and love of your farm. I enjoyed farming our farm for 48 years and miss it very much. Your videos help a lot. Thanks keep them coming and I will keep watching.
