  1. Air Force HMMWV's that are ragged out belonged to either Security Forces or Civil Engineering. Everyone else drove them solely to get it on their license, then maybe to maintenance annually for an oil change. I worked on these for 25 years and never saw one with over 5K on the clock. Our cops used to jump these over speed bumps in the desert and break those springs, too. And on the up-armored version, the A/C is mounted to the roof, and they'd snap the bolts holding them and rip lines out on purpose, because their temp vehicles were civilian SUV's with good A/C and comfortable seats when these came to the shop to wait for parts to arrive from stateside vendors. Also , that deal on the left rear tire is to run a stand alone generator off of the truck's engine. I have never actually seen one, but some Army guys probably had them. The AF uses diesel generators for field use.

  2. When I was doing Air Force Air Base ground defense training in Arkansas in 1989 we were out on recon in one of those hummers and had it up to about 50 on a gravel road and planted it into a hard right off into the sticks where we came across a field of dirt mounds 3 feet tall. It handled the washboard like it was it's own back yard. Every since that day the machine had my respect. It had canvas on plywood seats and cloth doors. The only cushion in the ride came from the suspension and we road those beasts hard! As I said in another comment when I was later in the Army as a bridge crew squad leader I had my own hummer and it turned heads when I would stop by the house to check on things.

  3. Hey Ray. Prior military mechanic here. At 09:39, behind the generator, (behind the oil dipstick), that is actually where your fuel filter is located, inside that canister. You can actually replace the filter easily without having to fully remove the whole canister. (Just to let you know, as you weren't sure what it was.) 😅

  4. I'm trying to get a question answered. I'm no transmission guy know little to nothing about the inner workings. I have a high mileage silverado 2500 .6.0 HD gas. 250,000 miles. No transmission problems at all but a buddy told me I should change the fluid and filter. I saw a video from another popular YouTube/mechanic, where he basically says that changing the fluid in high milage transmission can sometimes cause them to slip. I'm not sure if this fluid has been changed in the past, I bought it with 150,000. It was a wide load chase truck. Any transmission guys on here can give an opinion on it I'd be very appreciative and it'd help settle a debate.

  5. my dads 67 VW micro bus hat gear reduction it did not have a high end speed, had great traction
and better acceleration since it was only 40 Hp. and you could remove the seats for more space
to haul things. with the H1 you need more torque over speed. especially in combat to not get stuck.

  6. around 8 to 10 kids fit perfectly in that Humvee. Is the PERFECT family vehicle. It has all the necessary protection for a family.
Now, regarding the "details" for mounting a machine gun in the back, that's just a legal detail, but it is added protection, remember that. "Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it"
