I just won this Range Rover for $700 at a Car Auction. This Luxury SUV once cost over $75,000 new, and now they’re frequently sold for scrap value. So how bad is it???

  1. try the cheap fix and go from there as it makes better content. would be nice to see if it fixes it. Makes me want to go out and buy one 😁👍

  2. Hi Sam. THis happened to my Merc. After sitting in the garage for 6 months after l bought it, the transmission went into limp mode due to a failing main battery.
Fitted a new battery and reset the transmission with a scanner and VOILA! All done.

  3. We accidently got a Jaguar. We got scammed by the flipper tbh, our naiveness too.

But it's amazing how unreliable these are. 10 days later the fuel system was leaking and had heavy gasoline smell everywhere. door locks weren't working, some BCM functions were hardly working, etc.

  4. I had a similar tranny issue with my 2001 Ford F150. Dealer and local transmission repair shop both recommended a new (reman) tranny for a cost of around $3000. I replaced one shift solenoid myself ($17) and serviced the tranny at the same time (i.e. new filter and fluid). That was over ten years and 100K miles ago and the tranny is still working as it should. Lesson here…..don't listen to the dealer and do your homework.

  5. I had the valve body repaired on my 05 LR3 with the 4.4. Great engine, my symptom was clunking between gear shift. Tried the fluid/filter swap but a no go. After the valve body job it’s been solid for 50k so far. Other than coil and plugs, and several other minor mechanical issues you can expect with a 200k plus SUV it’s been a solid ride. Can’t wait to see you handle the job!

  6. That's the correct statement, mechanics don't do repairs nowadays just replacements. However, I think buying the cheapest seloniods from China is worth the risk.

  7. Sam Check the fuse box , I had a similar issue on my 2007 Jaguar XK which uses the same 4.2 v8. I had been swapping around fuses to fix an electrical fault and a similar issue occurred to me, it wouldn't shift . Turns out I had forgotten to put a fuse back in and replacing it fixed it immediately. This powertrain is incredibly reliable, just make sure to change the trans fluid once in a while.

  8. People truly have no idea just how insanely reliable the AJ V8 truly is. Besides, it's backed by a ZF 6HP. Both indestructible. Point is stay away from any Rover with a 5.0 or BMW powerplant. Long live the AJ.
