Customer Says – Give Me A Brake!

In this video I help a customer out who is trying to pass NYS inspection however their parking brake does not work. Once we peeled the rotors off, we see why. They need a brake! Just one though 😏

  1. one thing NY is diff to PA. PA We cant have rust , Ball joints , Wheel bearings , ETC … PA strict but not. No Emission in UPPER pa but lower pa has them

  2. You had me laughing my ass off when you talked about leaded gas and you said are you 70 years old well I’ll be 71 in September and yeah when I was a kid working in a gas station we had let it gas for 24.9 cents a gallon you guys are great you and Mrs. O I really fun to watch

  3. I will be 79 in a couple of months. When I was young, never in my wildest dreams did I think that there would come a day when you could get better parts from the junk yard than the parts store. 😢😢

  4. Dont you love it when dumb outdated laws arent updated. They can take my drivers license for having a seizure (i have epilepsy) but they’ll tell me Im safe to ride a bike on the same road they tell me its not safe to drive on 😵. Then North America has accessibility laws that say our bikes can be mobility aids and used on sidewalks if they take my license, its so confusing. Canada and USA have this 🤐

  5. Eric, just caught this video, and your rant at the end was very informative. My wife's 15 Silverado just failed a NYS inspection for failed ball joints. Imagine my surprise after you stated they aren't something you can fail for. That makes me even madder than the 800 labor charge from an Ontario NY Chevy dealer plus parts that were double what I could buy them for. I wish we were closer to you, to have an honest mechanic work on our vehicle, I keep trying since my mechanic lost his shop in his divorce, and all I find are cheats and liars…very disappointing, the struggle is real.

  6. I like the licky sticky inspections stickers because there's so much wrong with the inspection requirements as you stated. Being in MD, we're lucky the inspections only need to be done at the time of registration. Never understood the annual inspections because I've seen some crazy stuff they've passed in PA's annual inspections.

  7. Eric, you probably wouldn't like the PRNY to be efficient in updating its requirements for inspections. They would have things so nuts that nobody could afford to keep cars for over 3 years and your shop business would suffer. Still, ball joints about to fall off and still passing inspection is crazy. I'm sure you advise your customers the importance of good ball joints.

  8. Still don’t understand why in the state have Nuts and Screws to secure the car tire 🛞.

In Europe, they just have the Screws! The threads are in the brake disc hub.

Should be universal for all car manufacturers!

  9. I hope one day when the O's are nearing ready to retire, they have a chance to come on down to Florida; no snow, no rust, no inspections (😅). Ol' Eric could point at wheel bearings and watch them fall off! 🤣 Ahh, life's good.

  10. Eric,
I do remember fuel with Tetraethyl Lead added (supposedly to prevent valve sear recession). Yes, I am 73 years old, but some guys in their 60's may remember it too (unless in CA or NY).

  11. People who created and maintain current law for automobiles know nothing of their workings. They’re too busy worrying where they will be going to lunch.

  12. Ha, I know what you mean about the reading glasses. I'm always tripping over hoses & stuff on the floor when wearing mine. Last week, I was walking under a truck, on the lift & walked right into a low hanging ball joint stud. Got 2 staples in my head for that one!
