BRZ Resurrection Pt 28 – 5th Time’s A Charm – $500 Paint Job

In this episode Chris paints the BRZ and the window louvers with 3 coats of base coat and 2 coats of clear coat. The outcome is finally acceptable to $500 paint job standards. For those trying to follow along, pick up an Eastwood Concours spray gun, rent an air compressor, and buy paint from your local automotive paint shop. Following those steps you should be able to spray your car for under $500.

  1. damn dude. 1500 bucks, I appreciate you taking the hit to learn lessons for us. I want to be able to paint my own cars when I need and i'm just learning. terrified to try it.

  2. When self spraying a car without access to a booth, always apply an extra coat of clear. You will almost never get a finish where you never have to attend to mistakes, such as dust particles, orange peel, overspray, and in some cases- runs. The extra clearcoat allows a thorough wet sand, buff, and polish- which done correctly, will improve your self spray exponentially. I garage sprayed my old Miata, applied 4 coats of clear over 3 coats of base… never had anything but compliments and often has people asking where I had it done and how much I paid. It was hard to differentiate the job from a body shop's, and at a fraction of the cost

  3. You seemed so much more casual and relaxed in the first few vids. Now you seem really serious about everything. Definite improvement in production quality, but I feel like its missing the boyish fun of the first few… Still a good watch, and nice job with everything. Also, what happened to your friend from the first two vids?

  4. Dude, it's definitely a decent paint job, considering you don't do this every day! Also considering the money investment you put in it! Keep up the great work man! Really enjoying watching these videos!

  5. Next time remove door handles. Why? Well you need to get clear over the hole panel beacuse otherwise it will start to peel off near the handles. Same is with door mirrors. Removing them will make your life easier when applying clear, eleminates runs in clear and orange peel. Otherwise, cool project. +1
