nice you found the problem, imo you should change the starter's gear, it must have a "triangular shape" on the side that engages with the ring gear on the flywheel, that shape favors the engage, if its flat maybe works anyway but it'll be noisy, hope you understand what i mean, my english is kinda poor.. haha
