The spot welding process hardens the steel .. thats why its so hard. You could use a spot weld cutter… drill bits wont work

I just want to replace the lower rear area, near the wheel, cut about 12' by 12'. Would like to cut it, weld in a new piece and then grind it off and make it look better. Tired of look at those ugly dents that are sever and rusty

Ok a couple of things on the quarter panel replacement. One you don't need to go all the way up on the sail panel. The ideal cut would be some where in the back glass area to the quarter glass area. You didn't need to drill all those spot welds out in front of the b-pillar.

They make a special drill bit for drilling out spot welds, 30-40 bucks, makes it go much faster and a cleaner cut.

for what its worth, the video you would have watched in Russian, the guy would have been using a spot weld drill bit, they are specifically designed with a shallow cutting head to chew out spot welds, and they look like a drill bit. they are alot better than the spot weld cutter you got, and more expensive. I've used both extensively with my build. Can't remember if i have a video using one on my channel, either way, keep up the good work mate!

every car is strong there. has nothing to do with built in roll cage. actually that toyota chassis (not subaru) is actually kind of a pile of crap in terms of strength compared to other cars. look at the iihs small overlap test. it got beat up pretty bad

Oh Hell Yea!! there is a drill bit that looks like a miniature hole saw, available at some car parts stores, use an eighth inch pilot divot to keep the center of the tool located correctly.
This video had me laughing my butt off until you got the spot weld cutter.. I knew you was not drilling through those welds with that drill bit, you have to cut around them… So for me it was funny to watch!! I think its cool you admit you don't know what the hell you are doing but you are not scared to try anyway.. Can't wait to see how it comes out!!

Nice video. Did you price out a new 1/4, before you bought the junk one? Sometimes you will be surprised how close in price a new oem part is to a junk part. Think of the time savings. Not to mention a higher quality repair. If you ask nice some dealers will give you a body shop discount, 20-30%.
