I've always used liquid electrical tape and just paint a nice amount on the tips, that should insulate the whole bunch then just tape them together.
to dead head wires use shrink wrap tube
There is a guy that builds and sells a stand-alone controller for SMG gearboxes .
There is a liquid electrical product that you can get from Home Depot or lowes that you could dip each wire end into the liquid tape and let it dry. Then, after it drys, you can tape the bundle together. Each wire will be separated by the liquid tape and sealed with the tape over the outside.

How about putting heat shrink over each wire then hitting all at once with heat gun.
As far as I have done I like to heatcrimp one end of a peice of heatshrink that will cover them all. Fill with a small amount of silicone , slip on to the wire bundle, heat shrink, and allow to cure

Wiring is the one thing I hate.
Did the end of the wires in wax and let it harden or something that could harden around them once dry, like glue

They make liquid "tape" in a rattle can that you can just spray on the ends of the wires then I would wrap the whole bundle up
If you haven't done it yet those wires you want to blank off just untape it a bit and fold all the wires over and put a heat shrink over the end

On my 3 series the heater core has a line that goes to the Coolant expansion tank.
you should look on Realoem.com exploded view of part.. just enter last 7 of vin to bring up the car.
