1998 Ford Contour Brake Line & AC Connector Repair -Fixing it Forward

Here is the second installment of the 1998 Ford Contour Fixing it Forward project. In this video I repair the AC connector going to the compressor clutch. In addition I diagnose a bad blower motor. I also repair the rusted brake line that was leaking. I do NOT recommend the use of compression fittings on replacement brake lines. This is why I used a double union flare. It would have been nice if my Harbor Freight flare tool was able to do the job, but instead I got a good workout for my pecks with the Eastwood tool. I wish they made a more portable version of it.

Anyway, I hope this video provides some enlightenment as well as entertainment.

  1. I see stuff like this a lot the car owner does all this work but half ass it and then take it to a shop to get it fixed unreal if he had just done the simple stuff put gas in put wal mart freon in he would have had it fixed

  2. I just replaced the exact same section of brake line due to it leaking on my 98' Contour. This video helped me out a lot. It was a real PITA.

  3. I had to do both lines on my 98 Contour with the 2.0 l . same rust areas and breach, a real pain to do if you're onyour side trying to reach in. I used NICOP. And compression fittings. Been great since then

  4. I live in an apartment complex surrounded by trees and other plants. Literally every morning I walk out to my car there are spider webs 🕸 on it, usually on/inside the wheels or under the side skirts or bumpers. Even just walking out my front door I get a face full of spiders 🕷 This is daily, just from sitting overnight. That’s Florida life for ya 💁‍♂️ Can’t wait to have a garage…

  5. WoW…talented work…would be great if you were located just a bit furthur east…would have come in for some work…I have the same exact car 44,000 miles…Not a great car…but gets me where I need to go…Recently found my trans gasket has a slow leak…Scary cause they have to drain the fluid to replace the gasket..which has a lot of pros & cons….Seems all cars have some kind of problems…especially today…Thanks for the great vids.

  6. Eric, Buddy… put the brake pedal 50% to the floor and block it. No leakage beyond what is in the line. Also, Eastwood sells a hydraulic powered flaring tool you can use under the car. It is a copy of the mastercool unit.

  7. Eric
I have that Eastwood flaring tool and love it. Did you know that Eastwood has another flaring tool made to be used under the vehicle?
Also cool to see that you went to Rosedale Tech in Pittsburgh, I went to Vale-Tech in Blairsville and grew up in Belle Vernon, PA.

  8. Hi Eric I know this video is years old but just a tip if you want to try it next time , the brake padel if you press it hard and get it to stay there by wedging something between pedal and seat , you can then undo any line under the car or all of then at each wheel and the fluid will not drain out , ., I always do this even it’s just one line then it’s just a quick bleeding on brakes after 🙂 thanks jamie

  9. The 'other' flare tool definitely takes some practice to use and I've never successfully used one in situ like that. They do work on the bench but learning to use that tool cost a little bit in broken 3/16th dies that's for sure.

  10. So helpful watching you do these repairs. I had the same thoughts and doubt when I worked on my Taurus and was alone. Thank you, my friend.

  11. i have a 99 2.0 contour.. AC isnt workin. i can feel the relay clicking on and off.. compressor will not stay on… blower works fine also replaced the cabin air filter

  12. This is awesome Eric. Love your fixing it forward videos. Better than anything on TV. Thank you for doing cool repair videos. 👍✌️

  13. Have a question I have a 98 contour svt ac just gave out like completely no air blowing thru vents neither heat or ac changed control panel blower fuses don't know what else to check please help
